Alcohol is commonly consumed with, or soon after, a meal that affects gastric emptying and thus, absorption and metabolism of alcohol. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of liquid test meal ingested soon after, alcohol ingestion on alcohol metabolism, as is common in the social setting. First, a 100 mL of water containing of 80 mg of 13C-ethanol was administrated orally in 7 healthy subjects, and 200 mL of liquid meal (200 kcal) was administrated 5 min after alcohol ingestion. Breath samples were taken at baseline and at 10-min interval for 150 min. Next, 13C-ethanol breath test was performed without ingestion of liquid meal. Cmax was decreased after ingestion of liquid meal, whereas Tmax was unchanged. The descending gradient of 13CO2 excretion curves after ingestion of liquid meal is parallel to that without liquid meal, while the ascending gradient of 13CO2 excretion curves in the first 10 min had a tendency to be greater after ingestion of liquid meal than without ingestion of liquid meal. A significant delay in breath 13CO2 excretion after ingestion of liquid meal was found and the AUC values were lower after ingestion of liquid meal in each time point, indicating that liquid meal ingested soon after alcohol ingestion may not affect elimination but absorption and/or metabolism of a small amount of alcohol.

Tea saponin has garnered tremendous interest for its potential use in surfactant and drug synthesis. This research was designed to develop a technique based on pH-responsive switchable deep eutectic solvents (SDESs) for extracting tea saponins from Camellia oleifera seed meal. SDES synthesized from hexanoic acid and triethanolamine (1:1 molar ratio) offered the optimum extractive performance and the optimal conditions were obtained through single-factor experiments: 30 wt% water content in SDES, solid-liquid ratio of 1:30 g/mL, 60°C extraction temperature, 30 min extraction time, and acid volume of 1500 µL.

The improved growth performance of calves at weaning results from an effective pre-weaning feeding strategy. The type and pasteurization process of liquid feed are among the most variable feeding practices affecting calves' growth and health. In previous studies that compared waste milk (WM) vs.

Background: Some adults with intellectual disabilities do not acquire oral feeding skills and are dependent on gastrostomy tube supplementation.
Methods: Two adults with intellectual and multiple disabilities received intervention for oral consumption during daily meals (standardised food and liquid quantities, individualised procedural guidelines, and consumption-contingent consequences) while the frequency and amount of gastrostomy tube feedings were gradually decreased and eliminated.
Results: Compared to baseline (pre-intervention) conditions, the adults increased oral consumption of food and liquid during the intervention and gastrostomy tube supplementation was eliminated.

While the effect of time-of-day (morning versus evening) on hormones, lipids and lipolysis has been studied in relation to meals and exercise, there are no studies that have investigated the effects of time-of-day on ice bath induced hormone and lipidome responses. In this crossover-designed study, a group of six women and six men, 26 ± 5 years old, 176 ± 7 cm tall, weighing 75 ± 10 kg, and a BMI of 23 ± 2 kg/mhad an ice bath (8-12 °C for 5 min) both in the morning and evening on separate days. Absence from intense physical exercise, nutrient intake and meal order was standardized in the 24 h prior the ice baths to account for confounders such as diet or exercise.

Root-knot nematodes (RKNs) are pathogens that endanger a wide range of crops and cause serious global agricultural losses. In this study, we investigated metabolites of the endoparasitic fungus YMF1.01751, with the expectation of discovering valuable biocontrol compounds.
