Biodegradable plastics, primarily aliphatic polyesters, degrade to varying extents in different environments. However, the absence of easily implementable techniques for screening microbial biodegradation potential -coupled with the limitations of non-functional omics analyses- has restricted comparative studies across diverse polymer types and ecosystems. In this study, we optimized a novel airbrushing method that facilitates functional analyses by simplifying the preparation of polyester-coated plates for biodegradation screening.

Through the mobilization of movable objects due to the extreme hydraulic conditions during a flood event, blockages, damage to infrastructure, and endangerment of human lives can occur. To identify potential hazards from aerial imagery and take appropriate precautions, a change detection tool (CDT) was developed and tested using a study area along the Aisch River in Germany. The focus of the CDT development was on near real-time analysis of point cloud data generated by structure from motion from aerial images of temporally separated surveys, enabling rapid and targeted implementation of measures.

The establishment of site-specific target limits (SSTLs) for old municipal solid waste (MSW) dumpsites is essential for defining remediation goals in a scientifically rigorous manner. However, a standardized framework for achieving this is currently lacking. This study proposes a comprehensive framework that integrates high-resolution site characterization (HRSC) tools, targeted sampling, and contaminant transport modeling to derive SSTLs.
