Background: Targeting cardiovascular fitness (CVF), rather than weight loss, may be a more acceptable and feasible outcome among Latinos.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the short-term efficacy of (AFL), a fitness- and lifestyle-focused behavioral intervention to improve CVF and performance among Latino families.

Methods: Latino parent-child dyads (n = 137) were randomized to either AFL program or a waitlist control condition.

CD19-CAR T-cell therapy induces deep tissue depletion of B cells.

Ann Rheum Dis

January 2025

Department of Medicine 3-Rheumatology and Immunology, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg and Uniklinikum Erlangen, Erlangen, Germany; Deutsches Zentrum Immuntherapie (DZI), Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg and Uniklinikum Erlangen, Erlangen, Germany, Erlangen, Germany. Electronic address:

Objectives: CD19-targeting chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy can induce long-term drug-free remission in patients with autoimmune diseases (AIDs). The efficacy of CD19-CAR T-cell therapy is presumably based on deep tissue depletion of B cells; however, such effect has not been proven in humans in vivo.

Methods: Sequential ultrasound-guided inguinal lymph node biopsies were performed at baseline and after CD19-CAR T-cell therapy in patients with AIDs.

Transcription enhanced associate domain factor 1 (TEAD1) predicts liver regeneration outcome of ALPPS-treated patients.

HPB (Oxford)

December 2024

Institute for Clinical Research (IKF), Semmelweis University, Campus Hamburg, Germany; Division of HPB Surgery, Department of Surgery, Asklepios Hospital Barmbek, Hamburg, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: The two-stage surgical technique of associated liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) enables extensive liver resection and promotes future liver remnant regeneration (FLR), in part by inhibiting the Hippo signalling pathway. Its main effector, Yes-associated protein (YAP), has low intrinsic transcriptional activity and requires the transcription enhanced associated domain factor (TEAD) family members as cofactors for target gene transcription. We evaluated the intracellular localization and expression of TEAD1-4, hypothesized to regulate the activity of YAP and, consequently, liver regeneration.

Acute respiratory tract infections during the first six years of life - results from the German birth cohort study LoewenKIDS.

Int J Infect Dis

January 2025

Institute of Medical Epidemiology, Biometrics, and Informatics, Interdisciplinary Centre for Health Sciences, Medical Faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Halle Saale, Germany; Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Epidemiology Research Group Epidemiological and Statistical Methods, 38124 Braunschweig, Germany. Electronic address:

Objectives: Acute respiratory infections (ARI) often occur in early childhood and are mostly self-limited. However, they impose a high socioeconomic burden and can be associated with chronic diseases later in life. To date, data on self-reported ARI beyond infancy are limited.

Objective: Periorbital necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI) is a rare entity caused either by polymicrobial infection (type 1) or Streptococcus pyogenes and/or Staphylococcus species (type 2). A high level of clinical suspicion is necessary to make the diagnosis. We present 3 cases of NSTI illustrating our diagnostic and therapeutic approach.
