We demonstrate the use of a transient polarization grating induced by two femtosecond laser pulses propagating in a LiNbO3 crystal for the generation of frequency tunable, narrow-band, picosecond THz pulses. Employing pump pulses with 150 fs duration and 2 J energy, the generated THz pulse has an energy up to 1.8 pJ, a pulse duration of 3 - 5 ps and a bandwidth of 0.1 THz. The central frequency can be tuned in the range from 0.5 to 3 THz. The generation efficiency of the transient grating method in comparison to other techniques is discussed. The possibility of shaping the temporal waveform of the THz pulses by simply shaping the spatial intensity distribution of the pump pulses is demonstrated.

Terahertz (THz) generation via photomixing on photoconductive antenna using twin delayed chirped pulses provides a long THz pulse with a narrow bandwidth. To generate a long pulse with a broad bandwidth, we propose a new, to the best of our knowledge, method that combines two long optical pulses with opposite chirps. The pulses exhibit temporal distributions of their instantaneous frequencies with opposite slopes.

A focused laser beam from an ultrafast optical oscillator propagates in the LiNbO layer and emits a Cherenkov cone of terahertz radiation to the Si semicone. The radiation is totally internally reflected by the semicone's convex surface and escapes the semicone through its base as a collimated beam.

By compressing the pump pulses from 170 fs down to 43 fs using an argon-filled hollow-core fiber and chirped mirrors, the terahertz conversion efficiency is increased by 2.4 times, leading to the generation of multi-microjoule terahertz pulses with a frequency spectrum almost twice as wide, extending up to 19 THz.

Our recent molecular dynamics simulations of decomposing Alzheimer's disease plaques, under oscillating- and static external electric fields (Os-EEFs and St-EEFs), revealed the superiority of Os-EEF for decomposing plaques consisting of the 7-residue peptide segment. This conclusion is now reinforced by studying the dimers of the short peptides and trimers of the full-length Aβ-42 peptide. Thus, the dispersed peptides obtained following St-EEF applications reformed the plaques once the St-EEF subsided.

Unveiling the nonlinear interactions between terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves and free carriers in two-dimensional materials is crucial for the development of high-field and high-frequency electronic devices. Herein, we investigate THz nonlinear transport dynamics in a monolayer graphene/MoS heterostructure using time-resolved THz spectroscopy with intense THz pulses as the probe. Following ultrafast photoexcitation, the interfacial charge transfer establishes a nonequilibrium carrier redistribution, leaving free holes in the graphene and trapping electrons in the MoS.
