Nowadays self-modeling/multivariate curve resolution algorithms have become very popular in chemometrics, i.e. for evaluating analytical chemical measurements. The developments split into two directions: (1) finding band solution and (2) finding unique solution. For band solutions the task is to find the band boundaries of the feasible regions. The size of the range calculated in this way can be considered as the measure of the rotational ambiguity. In this paper the developed methods are compared and some theoretical and practical considerations are given according to the improper and proper calculations.

Crystallization in load-controlled shearing flows of monosized spheres.

Soft Matter

Politecnico di Milano, 20133 Milano, Italy.

Identical, inelastic spheres crystallize when sheared between two parallel, bumpy planes under a constant load larger than a minimum value. We investigate the effect of the inter-particle friction coefficient of the sheared particles on the flow dynamics and the crystallization process with discrete element simulations. If the imposed load is about the minimum value to observe crystallization in frictionless spheres, adding small friction to the granular assembly results in a shear band adjacent to one of the planes and one crystallized region, where a plug flow is observed.

The motion of the trabecular meshwork (TM) facilitates the aqueous drainage from the anterior chamber to the venous system, thereby maintaining normal intraocular pressure. As such, characterizing the TM motion is valuable for assessing the functionality of the aqueous outflow system, as demonstrated by previous phase-sensitive optical coherence tomography (OCT) studies. Current methods typically acquire motion from a single cross-sectional plane along the circumference of the anterior chamber.

This study explores the application of fuzzy soft classification techniques combined with vegetation indices to address spectral overlap and heterogeneity in agricultural image processing. The methodology focuses on the integration of three key vegetation indices: Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI), Modified Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (MSAVI), and Modified Chlorophyll Absorption in Reflectance Index (MCARI), with Modified Possibilistic C-Means (MPCM) clustering. The analysis involves preprocessing the image data, calculating the vegetation indices, and applying the MPCM algorithm to perform soft classification, allowing pixels to belong to multiple classes with varying degrees of membership.

In-Plane Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide Junction with Nearly Zero Interfacial Band Offset.

Two-dimensional in-plane transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) junctions have a range of potential applications in next-generation electronic devices. However, limited by the difficulties in ion implantation on 2D systems, the fabrication of the in-plane TMD junctions still relies on the lateral epitaxy of different materials, which always induces lattice mismatch and interfacial scattering. Here, we report the in-plane TMD junction formed with monolayer (ML) PtTe at the boundary of ML and bilayer graphene on SiC.

Dispersive nodal fermions along grain boundaries in Floquet topological crystals.

Driven quantum materials often feature emergent topology, otherwise absent in static crystals. Dynamic bulk-boundary correspondence, encoded by nondissipative gapless modes residing near the Floquet zone center and/or boundaries, is its most prominent example. Here we show that topologically robust gapless dispersive modes appear along the grain boundaries, embedded in the interior of Floquet topological crystals, when the Floquet-Bloch band inversion occurring at a finite momentum ( ) and the Burgers vector ( ) of the constituting array of dislocations satisfy (modulo ).
