Hypertension control rates in the elderly, particularly for systolic hypertension, are poor and lower than control rates in other age groups. Older patients often require treatment with specific antihypertensive drugs because of concomitant conditions and usually need > or =2 drugs to control blood pressure. Combining drugs with complementary mechanisms of action may improve both blood pressure control and the tolerability of individual drugs. A number of fixed-dose combinations have shown efficacy in older patients and in stage 2 hypertension, including various combinations involving diuretics and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers.

Purpose: The delayed or missed diagnosis of secondary hypertension contributes to the poor blood pressure control worldwide. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic approach to primary aldosteronism (PA) and pheochromocytoma (PHEO) among Italian centers associated to European and Italian Societies of Hypertension.
Methods: Between July and December 2023, a 10-items questionnaire was administered to experts from 82 centers of 14 Italian regions and to cardiologists from the ARCA (Associazioni Regionali Cardiologi Ambulatoriali) Piemonte.

Substandard and falsified (SF) medical products are a serious health and economic concern that disproportionately impact low- and middle-income countries and marginalized groups. Public education campaigns are demand-side interventions that may reduce risk of SF exposure, but the effectiveness of such campaigns, and their likelihood of benefitting everybody, is unclear. Nationwide pilot risk communication campaigns, involving multiple media, were deployed in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Uganda in 2020-2021.
