One of the important functions of the dermatologist working within a social medicine framework is the determination of social security disability benefits. The primary decision deals with the question which type of work the applicant can be asked to do and to what extent. Depending on the results of the medical assessment, social security disability benefits may be approved given that other insurance criteria specific to the applicant have been met. The following case demonstrates for the first time that a significant idiopathic cold urticaria leads to a severe constraint on keeping employment due to the inability to commute. The scenario shows that the cold urticaria severely restricts social and professional interactions and that the reduced ability to commute to the place of employment must receive special consideration within the context of a sociomedical evaluation.

Background: Diversity in the physician workforce is critical for quality patient care. Students from low-income backgrounds represent an increasing proportion of medical school matriculants, yet little research has addressed their medical school experiences.
Objective: To explore the medical school experiences of students from low-income backgrounds using a modified version of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (physiologic, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and self-actualization) as a theoretical framework.

Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have shown promising results in solving a wide range of problems involving partial differential equations (PDEs). Nevertheless, there are several instances of the failure of PINNs when PDEs become more complex. Particularly, when PDE coefficients grow larger or PDEs become increasingly nonlinear, PINNs struggle to converge to the true solution.

A group of highly experienced pilots performed full-motion, simulated T-38 landings before and after extended missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS). On the day of return from the ISS pilots' performance was degraded on the initial landing attempt, with difficulty maintaining altitude during banking turns and navigational errors, which affected touchdown parameters such as touchdown speed, height over runway threshold and touchdown distance from the runway threshold. A positive result was that all pilots successfully completed a second landing attempt on the same day, suggesting a rapid recovery of performance once exposed to the task at hand.

Importance: Sexual minority (ie, people who self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and other nonheterosexual identities) and gender minority (ie, people who self-identify as transgender, nonbinary, or other noncisgender identities) adults report worse health outcomes compared with heterosexual and cisgender adults, respectively. Although social risk factors (SRFs; eg, housing instability) are associated with health outcomes, little is known about the prevalence of SRFs among sexual and gender minority adults.
Objective: To examine differences in the prevalence of SRFs by sexual orientation and gender identity among adults.

People experiencing homelessness are at increased risk for serious burn injuries and face additional barriers to care such as inability to perform wound care and difficulty with follow-up. Although not burn-specific, street medicine programs provide direct medical care to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in their own environment and may be well positioned to bridge this gap in burn care for this population. We conducted a cross-sectional survey to characterize the burn care experience of street medicine teams with providing burn care for people experiencing homelessness.
