We propose a new method for estimating the bit error rate (BER) of optical channels suffering from crosstalk and waveform distortion. We demonstrate experimentally that the new method can provide a good BER estimation with an error range less than one order of magnitude.

Fast-response photodetectors have attracted considerable attention in the application of high-speed communication, real-time monitoring, and optical imaging systems. However, most reported photodetectors suffer from limitations of the inherent properties of materials, low carrier transport efficiency, and unmatched interfaces, which lead to a low response speed. Here, we report a WS/graphene/MoS vertical van der Waals heterojunction fabricated by mechanical exfoliation and dry transfer methods for fast response.

Robust Magnetoelectric Backscatter Communication System for Bioelectronic Implants.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rice University, 6100 Main St, Houston, TX, 77005.

Wireless communication technologies for bioelectronic implants enable remote monitoring for diagnosis and adaptive therapeutic intervention without the constraints of wired connections. However, wireless data uplink from millimeter-scale devices deep in the body struggles to achieve low power consumption while maintaining large misalignment tolerances. Here, we report a passive wireless backscatter communication system based on magnetoelectric transducers that consumes less than 0.

In this paper, we propose a covert communication scheme based on a spread spectrum for ultra-violet communication. We first characterize the system model of the communication system, where Warden is adopted to monitor the legitimated user transmission based on the binary hypothesis test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. To avoid periodic transmission of the pilot sequence which potentially degrades covertness, we propose a blind synchronization approach, such that the pilot sequence does not need to be transmitted.

Inter-Satellite Optical Wireless Communication (Is-OWC) is a pivotal technology for advancing global connectivity and the effectiveness of space-based operations. It serves as the linchpin for various applications such as global internet coverage, Earth observation, and remote sensing, bolstering our capacity to monitor the planet and deliver essential services. This paper presents the design and performance evaluation of a Polarization Division Multiplexing (PDM) and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO)-based Is-OWC system operating at a data rate of 60 Gbps.

Real-time monitoring of dynamic biological processes in the body is critical to understanding disease progression and treatment response. This data, for instance, can help address the lower than 50% response rates to cancer immunotherapy. However, current clinical imaging modalities lack the molecular contrast, resolution, and chronic usability for rapid and accurate response assessments.
