Synthesis of the glycolurils catalyzed by potassium hydroxide was carried out in 17-75% yield at 40 degrees C in EtOH under ultrasound irradiation. Compared to the method using stirring, the main advantage of the present procedure is milder conditions and shorter reaction time.

Some biomasses like cotton contain natural fibrous structures. This is a desirable structural feature for exposure of adsorption sites on cotton-derived activated carbon (AC). Understanding protein function would be facilitated by direct, real-time observation of chemical kinetics in the atomic structure. The selectivity filter (SF) of the K channel provides an ideal model, catalyzing the dehydration and transport of K ions across the cell membrane through a narrow pore. We used a "pump-probe" method called electric-field-stimulated time-resolved X-ray crystallography (EFX) to initiate and observe K conduction in the NaK2K channel in both directions on the timescale of the transport process.

This study introduces a novel one-pot strategy for the chemical valorization of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), coupling its base-catalyzed depolymerization with the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of trimethylene carbonate (TMC). The process exploits an eutectic mixture of lactide (LA) and TMC, which lowers the thermal input required for PLA degradation. Using potassium aryloxide (KOAr) as a bifunctional catalyst, the PLA is first quickly hydrolyzed into oligomers or lactic acid, which subsequently initiate the slower polymerization of TMC.
