The combination of selective chemical etching and atomic force microscopy has been used for the first time to make ultra-high spatial resolution (20 nm) index of refraction profiles of femtosecond laser modified structures in silica glass.

Direct laser writing (DLW) has been recognized as a unique technique for three-dimensional (3D) prototyping with resolution beyond the diffraction limit. One trend in DLW technologies is the use of polymers, given their favorable mechanical properties and optical quality, rendering them promising for the next generation of nonlinear photonic devices. However, absorptive properties that facilitate DLW processes may also hinder the performance of polymers as all-optical devices.

Light manipulation and control are essential in various contemporary technologies, and as these technologies evolve, the demand for miniaturized optical components increases. Planar-lens technologies, such as metasurfaces and diffractive optical elements, have gained attention in recent years for their potential to dramatically reduce the thickness of traditional refractive optical systems. Purpose: The diagnosis of fungal keratitis using potassium hydroxide (KOH) smears of corneal scrapings enables initiation of the correct antimicrobial therapy at the point-of-care but requires time-consuming manual examination and expertise. This study evaluates the efficacy of a deep learning framework, dual stream multiple instance learning (DSMIL), in automating the analysis of whole slide imaging (WSI) of KOH smears for rapid and accurate detection of fungal infections.
