A pot experiment was conducted to study the effect of exogenous spermidine (Spd) on the seed germination and seedling antioxidant system of tomato cultivar 'Baiguoqiangfeng' under NaCl stress. The results showed that after soaking with Spd, the tomato seed's germination rate (Gr), germination index (Gi), and vigor index (Vi) increased by 104.90%, 142.31% and 122.22%, respectively, and the mean germination time (MGT) shortened by 4.97%, compared with the control. Soaking seed with Spd increased the seedling leaf's superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) activities and soluble protein content, and decreased its superoxide anion (O2) production rate, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) content, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and electrolyte leakage of plasma membrane. The seedling growth was also promoted. It was concluded that soaking seed with Spd could promote the seed germination and seedling growth of tomato under NaCl stress, and enhance the salt-resistance of tomato plant.

Extreme conditions, such as cold and high humidity in northeast China's high-latitude maize region, can hinder crop yield and stability during the vegetative stage. However, there is a paucity of research examining the effects of simultaneous cold and high humidity stress on plant responses. In this study, we characterized the acclimation of JD558 (cold- and high humidity-sensitive hybrid) and JD441 (cold- and high humidity-tolerant hybrid) to stress at sowing caused by cold (4 °C), high humidity (25%), and their combined stress for five days, using physiological measurements and metabolomics during the stress treatments and recovery stages.

Polyploidization (diploidy → polyploidy) was more likely to be positively associated with seed mass than with seed germination. Polyploidy is common in flowering plants, and polyploidization can be associated with the various stages of a plant's life cycle. Our primary aim was to determine the association (positive, none or negative) of polyploidy with seed mass/germination via a literature review.

In this work, several imidazo[1,2-]pyridines were synthesized through the Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé three-component reaction (GBB-3CR), and their phytotoxicity was evaluated by the influence on the growth of wheat coleoptiles and three important agricultural seeds (, , and ) at test concentrations of 1000, 300, 100, 30, and 10 μM. A structure-activity relationship was established, showing the importance of halogen groups at the position of the attached aromatic ring and the presence of a cyclohexylamine group for greater activity. Post-modification of some GBB-3CR adducts was carried out, leading to imidazo[1,2-]pyridine-tetrazole hybrids, which were also evaluated in these bioassays.

As biodegradable and bio-based plastics increasingly replace conventional plastics, the need for a comprehensive understanding of their ecotoxicity becomes more pressing. This review systematically presents the ecotoxicity of the microplastics (MPs) from different biodegradable plastics and bioplastics on various animals and plants. High doses of polylactic acid (PLA) MPs (10%) have been found to reduce plant nitrogen content and biomass, and affect the accumulation of heavy metals in plants.
