We present the case of a patient who came to the emergency department with a significant decrease in vision and dilated pupil in the left eye. Since neurological pathologies were primarily considered, diffusion brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and brain computed tomography (CT) were requested. After the results were reported as normal, we were consulted.

Significance: Current super-resolution imaging techniques allow for a greater understanding of cellular structures; however, they are often complex or only have the ability to image a few cells at once. This small field of view (FOV) may not represent the behavior across the entire sample, and manual selection of regions of interest (ROIs) may introduce bias. It is possible to stitch and tile many small ROIs; however, this can result in artifacts across an image.

This article discusses relics housed in the Ringling Circus Museum in Sarasota, Florida: photos, works of art, newspaper clippings, performance records, and scrapbooks of mostly 19th- and 20th-century circus performers with varied, often "unusual," bodies that have been all but forgotten. Encountering these artifacts left the author wonderstruck-a feeling sometimes so abrupt that it heaves us into the conscious presence of others-and left him with a string of complex emotions. In this article, the author attempts to recreate the affective experience of wonder as the performers' images were lifted before him, and to reflect on the ways disability prompts that affective experience of wonder and functions in moral development.

Macro-FSH is a rare cause of inappropriately high FSH concentrations.

Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep

October 2024

Endocrinology Unit, Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milan, Italy.

Summary: Assessment of hormone concentrations can be subjected to laboratory pitfalls. Macro-hormones are hormone-autoantibody complexes which are cleared slowly from circulation and cause a false elevation in hormones' concentrations. Macro-prolactin and macro-thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) are most frequently encountered while macro-follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) has been rarely reported.

A novel computational signal processing framework towards multimodal vital signs extraction using neck-worn wearable devices.

Sci Rep

September 2024

Wearable Technologies Lab, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London, London, SW7 2BT, UK.

Pulse rate (PR) and respiratory rate (RR) are two of the most important vital signs. Monitoring them would benefit from easy-to-use technologies. Hence, wearable devices would, in principle, be ideal candidates for such systems.
