The varying growth rates within a group of pigs present a significant challenge for the current all-in-all-out systems in the pig industry. This study evaluated the applicability of statistical methods for classifying pigs at risk of growth retardation at different production stages using a robust dataset collected under commercial conditions. Data from 26,749 crossbred pigs (Yorkshire × Landrace) with Duroc at weaning (17 to 27 d), 15,409 pigs at the end of the nursery period (60 to 78 d), and 4996 pigs at slaughter (151 to 161 d) were analyzed under three different cut points (lowest 10%, 20%, and 30% weights) to characterize light animals.

Purpose: Currently, maxillary sinus floor (SF) elevation is based on off-the-shelf allogeneic, xenogeneic or synthetic bone augmentation materials (BAM) that are implanted via an open lateral sinus wall approach (OSFE). However, this invasive method is associated with postoperative complications caused by an inadequate blood supply of the alveolar ridge. Balloon-assisted procedures are minimal invasive alternatives with lower complication rates.

Using a 6-week porcine full-thickness excisional wound grafting model, we evaluated the Autologous Regeneration of Tissue (ART®) System, a novel skin harvesting device designed to collect autologous full-thickness autologous microcolumns (FTAM) at 0.5 mm in diameter. The donor skin sites were harvested using the ART® System and compared to split-thickness skin grafts (STSGs).

As previous data showing the negative impact of semen agitation during transport on sperm quality was obtained only in tube-type packages, this study aimed to compare two packages for boar semen dose (bag or tube) submitted to different agitation times. Ejaculates from thirty different boars were diluted in BTS extender, packed in bags or tubes in split sample, and submitted to agitation for 0, 6, or 12 h at 100 rpm at 17 ºC. Semen doses were stored for up to 168 h and evaluated for quality traits.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant challenge to animal production due to the widespread use of antibiotics. Therefore, there is an urgent need for alternative antimicrobial strategies to effectively manage bacterial infections, protect animal health, and reduce reliance on antibiotics. This study evaluated the use of emerging approaches and procedures for the isolation, identification, and characterization of bacteriocin-producing bacteria and their bacteriocins, sourced from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of meat-producing pigs.
