We report on spectral combination of four high repetition rate 5 ns pulsed Yb-doped fiber amplifiers at 1 microm wavelength. The output beam is spatially and temporally superposed by use of an all-reflective diffraction grating. 1.1 kW average power and 220 microJ pulse energy were extracted with a combining efficiency of 99%.

Supercontinuum generation in scintillator crystals.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Laser Research Center, Vilnius University, Saulėtekio Avenue 10, LT-10223, Vilnius, Lithuania.

We present a comparative experimental study of supercontinuum generation in undoped scintillator crystals: bismuth germanate (BGO), yttrium orthosilicate (YSO), lutetium oxyorthosilicate (LSO), lutetium yttrium oxyorthosilicate (LYSO) and gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG), pumped by 180 fs fundamental harmonic pulses of an amplified Yb:KGW laser. In addition to these materials, experiments in yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG), potassium gadolinium tungstate (KGW) and lithium tantalate (LT) were performed under identical experimental settings (focusing geometry and sample thickness), which served for straightforward comparison of supercontinuum generation performances. The threshold and optimal (that produces optimized red-shifted spectral extent) pump pulse energies for supercontinuum generation were evaluated from detailed measurements of spectral broadening dynamics.

An in-situ study in the Xijiang River basin revealed adverse effects of total dissolved gas supersaturation on fish.

High dam discharge can lead to total dissolved gas (TDG) supersaturation in downstream rivers, causing fish to suffer from bubble trauma and even mortality. Focusing on the Datengxia hydropower station in the Xijiang River basin, we conducted in-situ experiments to explore the tolerance patterns of economic fish species, including Ctenopharyngodon idella, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, and Cirrhinus molitorella, under the influence of TDG supersaturation at different compensation depths. Moreover, the development and recovery patterns of bubble trauma and the swimming ability of fish exposed to TDG supersaturated water were investigated.

Self-driven electrochemical system for struvite and energy recovery from digested wastewater: Device optimization strategy and long-term operation.

School of Environmental and Municipal Engineering, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, Xi'an, 710055, PR China; Key Laboratory of Environmental Engineering, Shaanxi Province, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, Xi'an, 710055, PR China.

A self-driven electrochemical system (SDES) was utilized to treat anaerobic digestate wastewater, aiming to achieve wastewater resource utilization and energy generation. The efficiencies of pollutant removal, resource recovery, and energy production were enhanced by adjusting device parameters (anode area, external resistance, and electrode spacing). The high pollutant removal rates and struvite purity were achieved with the magnesium anode area of 15 cm, external resistance of 10 Ω, and electrode spacing of 10 cm.

The solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) strongly determines the stability and reversibility of aqueous Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs). In traditional electrolytes, the nonuniform SEI layer induced by severe parasitic reactions, such as the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), will exacerbate the side reactions on Zn anodes, thus leading to low zinc utilization ratios (ZURs). Herein, we propose to use methoxy ethylamine (MOEA) as a nucleophilic additive, which has a stronger nucleophilic characteristic than water, with the advantage of an abundance of nucleophilic atoms.

This study presents a novel optimization algorithm known as the Energy Valley Optimizer Approach (EVOA) designed to effectively develop six optimal adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (AFLCs) comprising 30 parameters for a grid-tied doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) utilized in wind power plants (WPP). The primary objective of implementing EVOA-based AFLCs is to maximize power extraction from the DFIG in wind energy applications while simultaneously improving dynamic response and minimizing errors during operation. The performance of the EVOA-based AFLCs is thoroughly investigated and benchmarked against alternative optimization techniques, specifically chaotic billiards optimization (C-BO), genetic algorithms (GA), and marine predator algorithm (MPA)-based optimal proportional-integral (PI) controllers.
