Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) often leads to refractory nephrotic syndrome (NS). A high level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is a risk factor for the progression of NS. An 8-year-old girl presented with severe proteinuria refractory to steroid therapy. She was diagnosed with non-IgA diffuse mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis. Oral prednisolone, methylprednisolone (mPL) pulse therapy, and cyclosporine and cyclophosphamide therapy failed to achieve remission. Follow-up renal biopsy revealed FSGS. Her serum level of LDL was high, and LDL-apheresis (LDL-A) was performed five times, followed by mPL pulse therapy. Urinary protein decreased from 2-4 g x day(-) to 0.5-1.0 g x day(-). LDL-A may be beneficial in the treatment of multidrug-resistant FSGS.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels being a major risk factor. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) plays a critical role in regulating LDL-C levels by promoting the degradation of hepatic low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) responsible for clearing LDL-C from the circulation. PCSK9 inhibitors are novel lipid-modifying agents that have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in reducing plasma LDL-C levels and decreasing the incidence of CVD.

Patients with hyperlipidemia are of interest because of the possible interplay between chronic local dental infections and hyperlipidemia. This interventional clinical study aimed to evaluate the oral health status of hyperlipidemic patients receiving lipid-lowering therapy for at least 6 months and the effects of non-surgical and surgical dental treatments on serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and lipid markers. Twenty-eight patients with controlled hyperlipidemia and 18 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.

Neuroendocrine tumors are a diverse group of tumors predominantly found in the gastrointestinal tract or respiratory system. : This retrospective study aimed to measure the serum concentrations of LRP6 (low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6), SFRP3 (secreted frizzled-related protein 3), and DVL1 (segment polarity protein dishevelled homolog) using the ELISA method in patients with NETs (N = 80) and a control group (N = 62). We evaluated the results against various demographic, clinicopathological, and biochemical characteristics.

The effectiveness of bariatric surgery in reducing remnant cholesterol (RC) levels, particularly when obesity is accompanied by elevated glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), is insufficiently investigated. In this study, we aimed to examine the impacts of two common bariatric procedures, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG), as regards their effects on RC and HbA1c levels. Adult morbidly obese subjects were included and assigned to receive either RYGB or SG.

Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness of a dual approach involving time-restricted eating (TRE) at different times of the day combined with physical activity (PA) on functional capacity and metabolic health in overweight or obese women.
Methods: Random allocation of sixty-one participants into four groups: early time-restricted eating plus physical activity (ETRE-PA, n = 15, 31.8 ± 10.
