The antioxidant and membranoprotective properties of trolox have been studied in vitro. It is established that trolox possesses antioxidant properties, inhibiting ascorbate-dependent lipid peroxidation of liver homogenates and Fe(2+)-induced lipid chemiluminescence of egg-yolk lipids. In addition, trolox exhibits a broad spectrum of antiradical activity and interacts with stable free 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical so as to reduce the generation of luminol radicals and reactive oxygen species and to bind peroxy radicals. Trolox also possessed membranoprotective properties, being capable of reducing the oxidative hemolysis of erythrocytes.

It is known that β-muricholic acid anions prevent membrane toxicity of hydrophobic bile acids, which are being used in therapy for solubilization of the cholesterol type bile stone. Better knowledge of these derivative micelles is very important for understanding their physiological and pharmacological effects. β-Axial (a) oriented hydroxyl group from the steroid skeleton decreases the hydrophobic surface of the convex side of the steroid skeleton.

On the basis of results of quantum-chemical researches with the analysis of atomic structure of molecule, it is shown that polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids have the expressed antioxidant and membranoprotective properties that with bioantioxidants karotenoids--tocopherols--are similar. At application in the sportsmen of medical drug Epadol on the basis of polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids it is shown that it brakes the activity of lipid peroxidation simultaneously, that is represented by reduction of maintenance of malonic dialdehyde as one of his eventual foods, and assists the improvement of antioxidant defence, that it contingently the increase of concentration of recovered glutathione in the membranes of red blood cells. Under the action of this medical drug the prooxidative-antioxidative coefficient for sportsmen goes down from 2.

The effect of N-stearoylethanolamine (NSE) on the lipid peroxidation process, antioxidant enzymes activity, phospholipid and fatty acid content in the rat liver tissues under acute morphine administration was studied. It was shown that morphine administration (30 mg/kg of body weight) caused an increase of the amount of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), alteration of antioxidant enzymes activity, decrease the protein level, quantity of total lipids and phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine, cholesterol esters; altered the content of some individual fatty acids. NSE administration (50 mg/kg of body weight) promoted normalization of the antioxidant enzymes activity and prevented the TBARS accumulation and decreased the total lipid and phospholipid quantity, increased the content of free and total cholesterol, corrected the level of free and individual fatty acids.

Emoxypine, thiotriazoline, and NN-103 (a 4-hydrazinoquinasoline derivative) exhibit a pronounced neuroprotective action during acute cerebral stroke. Emoxypine and thiotriazoline are more effective in inhibiting death of neurons in the sensomotor area of the frontal cortex, while NN-103 is more active in the hippocampus. The ischemic death of neurons in the sensomotors area of the frontal cortex with equal probability takes place by karyopyknosis or cytolysis, while in the hippocampus, mainly by cytolysis.
