Published: April 2009

At Rotterdam University in The Netherlands, the master's advanced nursing practice (ANP) program focuses on the role of the nurse practitioner (NP) and emphasizes leadership development. An international experience is compulsory and is incorporated into the leadership course. Twenty master's ANP students were surveyed before and after participating in an international exchange program. The following research questions were examined: (a) Does the international exchange program affect the vision of the NP students about their role as an NP in The Netherlands? (b) Does the international exchange program encourage students to develop the NP role? Gaining insight into a well-established NP environment can help empower Dutch NP students to create the foundations for role development to distinguish itself as an autonomous profession. An international experience fostered a new sense of pride in this relatively new ANP role in The Netherlands.

Advanced Institute for Medical Sciences, Dalian Medical University, Dalian 116044, China.

This article systematically reviews the characteristics and trends of the writing, editing, publication and promotion of physiology textbooks in China from the late 19th century to the present, focusing on the introduction, development and innovation of Chinese physiology textbooks. The development of physiology textbooks in China is divided into four main stages: the introduction and initial development of physiology textbooks from the late 19th century to 1925; the localization and diversification of textbooks from 1926 to 1949, after the establishment of the Chinese Physiological Society; the exploratory phase of textbook construction after the founding of the People's Republic of China from 1949 to 1976; the formation and innovation of the textbook development process from 1977 to the present, following the restoration of the college entrance examination. For each phase, the article not only records the historical development of physiology textbooks, but also analyzes the evolution of their content, writing styles and the interaction with the social and political contexts.

The dynamics of chemical reactions in solution are of paramount importance in fields ranging from biology to materials science. Because the hydrogen-bond network and proton dynamics govern the behavior of aqueous solutions, they have been the subject of numerous studies over the years. Here, we report the observation of a previously unknown associative state in the hydroxide ion that forms when a proton from a neighboring water molecule approaches the hydroxide ion, utilizing resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering (RIXS) and quantum dynamical simulations.

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysers are considered the most promising devices for hydrogen production when operated in tandem with renewable energy sources. However, their efficiency depends on catalysts used on the anode and cathode, but the acidic conditions at the membrane restrict the catalysts to noble metals. Hence, the search for non-noble metal catalysts that are active and stable under acidic conditions is important.

Molecular hydrogen is a colorless, tasteless, biologically active small-molecule gas with reducing properties, demonstrating therapeutic and preventive effects across various human systems. Its mechanisms of action include selective antioxidation, anti-inflammatory effects, apoptosis inhibition, and the regulation of gene expression and signaling pathways. In the skin, molecular hydrogen reduces oxidative damage by scavenging free radicals and inhibiting oxidative stress, leading to improvements in texture and tone.
