Adequate training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) is an important component of a workplace safety training program. Barriers to traditional in-classroom CPR-AED training programs include time away from work to complete training, logistics, learner discomfort over being in a classroom setting, and instructors who include information irrelevant to CPR. This study evaluated differences in CPR skills performance between employees who learned CPR using a self-directed learning (SDL) kit and employees who attended a traditional instructor-led course. The results suggest that the SDL kit yields learning outcomes comparable to those obtained with traditional instructor-led courses and is a more time-efficient tool for CPR-AED training. Furthermore, the SDL kit overcomes many of the barriers that keep individuals from learning CPR and appears to contribute to bystanders' confidently attempting resuscitation.

Background: Hyperpigmented spots are common issues in all ethnicities, involving multiple intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as UVB exposure, hormone balance, inflammatory status and ageing.
Objectives: To determine (i) melanocyte dendricity in multiple facial spot types, (ii) impact of High Mobility Group Box 1 (HMGB1), and the combination of sucrose dilaurate and sucrose laurate (SDL) on melanogenesis and melanocyte dendricity, and (iii) SDL effect on facial spots in a human use test.
Methods: Facial spot and adjacent non-spot skin biopsies were collected from Chinese women (age 20-70).

We measured the levels of digoxin-like immunoreactivity in the serum of 40 volunteers (20 patients with liver cirrhosis and 20 healthy adults) before and after the administration of a 5-day standard regimen of digoxin. Serum digoxin levels (SDL) were evaluated with two different radioimmunoassay (RIA) kits--Amerlex Digoxin 125I RIA and Digoxin 125I RIA. Digoxin was detectable by each RIA kit in 10 and 15% of controls and 50 and 60% of cirrhotic patients before the administration of the drug, respectively.
