Objectives: The purposes of this study were to evaluate various physiological fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) accumulations in the head and neck and to compare those with tumor (pathological) FDG accumulation.

Methods: One hundred and twelve patients with head and neck carcinomas were studied. PET/computed tomography examinations were performed 1 h after intravenous injection of fluorine-18-labeled FDG. The tumor and the physiological FDG accumulations were identified with PET/computed tomography images, and the maximum of the standardized uptake value (SUVmax) was calculated.

Results: Physiological FDG accumulation was observed in tonsil, extraocular muscle, masticatory muscle, vocal cord, and the major salivary glands: parotid, submandibular, and sublingual gland. The accumulation in tonsil, extraocular muscle, and sublingual gland showed relatively high SUVmax. The tumor FDG accumulation was significantly higher than any physiological FDG accumulation. The optimal cut-off values of SUVmax for differentiating physiological FDG accumulation from pathological FDG accumulation were 4.0 for parotid gland, 4.5 for submandibular gland, 5.5 for sublingual gland, 8.0 for tonsil, and 10.0 for extraocular muscle. The right-to-left ratio of SUVmax was less than 1.5 in any physiological accumulation.

Conclusion: Tonsil, extraocular muscle, and sublingual gland showed relatively high FDG accumulation, which was sometimes similar to tumor accumulation. The right-to-left ratio of SUVmax was considered useful in differentiating tumor from physiological accumulation, and the presence of tumor might be highly suspected in cases with a ratio of 1.5 or more.

"Hot quadrate lobe sign" refers to visualization of caudate lobe of liver due to excess accumulation of radiotracer secondary to superior vena cava obstruction. Collateral channels are formed between thoracic and mediastinal vessels; internal mammary through the paraumbilical vessels which drain blood to the left portal vein and into the caudate lobe of liver. It was first described on Tc99-m sulfur colloid scan.

Importance: The neuropathological links underlying the association between changes in liver function and AD have not yet been clearly elucidated.

Objective: We aimed to examine the relationship between liver function markers and longitudinal changes in Alzheimer's disease (AD) core pathologies.

Design: Data from the Korean Brain Aging Study for the Early Diagnosis and Prediction of Alzheimer's Disease, a longitudinal cohort study initiated in 2014, were utilized.

Acute myocardial infarction (MI) remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with inflammatory and reparative phases playing critical roles in disease progression. Currently, there is a pressing need for imaging techniques to monitor immune cell infiltration and inflammation activity during these phases. We developed a novel probe, Tc-HYNIC-mAb, utilizing a monoclonal antibody that targets the voltage-gated potassium channel 1.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders. Previous research has confirmed that isofraxidin can reduce macrophage expression and inhibit peripheral inflammation. However, its effects on the central nervous system remain underexplored.

A 30-year-old man with a 5-month history of lumbar pain was hospitalized due to worsening pain and restricted mobility. CT and MRI scans indicated multiple vertebral destructions, prompting further assessment with 18F-FDG PET/CT. PET/CT imaging showed widespread and avid 18F-FDG uptake in the bones, mainly in the vertebrae.
