Article Abstract
Functional principal component regression (FPCR) is a promising new method for regressing scalar outcomes on functional predictors. In this article, we present a theoretical justification for the use of principal components in functional regression. FPCR is then extended in two directions: from linear to the generalized linear modeling, and from univariate signal predictors to high-resolution image predictors. We show how to implement the method efficiently by adapting generalized additive model technology to the functional regression context. A technique is proposed for estimating simultaneous confidence bands for the coefficient function; in the neuroimaging setting, this yields a novel means to identify brain regions that are associated with a clinical outcome. A new application of likelihood ratio testing is described for assessing the null hypothesis of a constant coefficient function. The performance of the methodology is illustrated via simulations and real data analyses with positron emission tomography images as predictors.

Objectives: Suspension laryngoscopy can trigger vagal reflexes, leading to a decrease in heart rate, a phenomenon that is more common in patients with a high body mass index (BMI). This study aims to systematically evaluate the effect of BMI on heart rate during suspension laryngoscopy (SL-HR) in patients with laryngeal lesions.
Methods: We employed univariate generalized linear regression and stratified analyses to assess the relationship between BMI and changes in SLHR, adjusting for confounders such as age, gender, intubation type, and depth.

The identification of distribution characteristics, pollution sources, and potential human health risks of heavy metals in groundwater is crucial for the scientific planning and rational development of groundwater resources in arid-semiarid regions. In this study, 46 groundwater samples were collected and analyzed using hydrogeochemical modeling and multivariate statistical analysis methods to reveal the pollution characteristics and speciation distribution of 11 heavy metals （As, B, Pb, Sb, Tl, Mn, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, and Al） in the Datong Basin. The absolute principal component-linear regression （APCS-MLR） model and health risk assessment model （HRA） were employed to determine the sources and health risk levels of heavy metals in groundwater.

Herein, a novel dual-function paper-based biosensor using diffusion wet area as readout has been developed for simple and sensitive detection of hyaluronidase (HAase) and human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 DNA, respectively. The target-regulated-water absorption hydrogel synthesized by hyaluronic acid (HA) and single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) is chosen as an ideal material for diffusion wet area generation on paper. The hydrogel can be degraded through the enzymolysis of HA by HAase or the trans-cleavage of ssDNA by HPV DNA-activated CRISPR/cas12a system.
