The inferior colliculus is a key nucleus in the central auditory pathway, integrating acoustic stimuli from both cochleae and playing a crucial role in sound localization. It undergoes functional and structural development in childhood and experiences age-related degeneration later in life, contributing to the progression of age-related hearing loss. This study aims at finding out, whether the volume of the human inferior colliculus can be determined by analysis of routinely performed MRIs and whether there is any age-related variation.

Unipolar barrier architecture is designed to enhance the photodetector's sensitivity by inducing highly asymmetrical barriers, a higher barrier for blocking majority carriers to depressing dark current, and a low minority carrier barrier without impeding the photocurrent flow through the channel. Depressed dark current without block photocurrent is highly desired for uncooled Long-wave infrared (LWIR) photodetection, which can enhance the sensitivity of the photodetector. Here, an excellent unipolar barrier photodetector based on multi-layer (ML) graphene (G) is developed, WSe, and PtSe (G-WSe-PtSe) van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure, in which extremely low dark current of 1.

Two platinide plumbides, EuPtPb and SrPtPb, were discovered using high-temperature exploratory synthesis and flux-assisted crystal growth. Their crystal structures were determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic system; EuPtPb belongs to the YRhSn structure type (2, = 4.

The synthesis and thermal properties of a volatile dimethylgold(III) complex MeAuSSP(OPr) are reported. Unlike most other volatile Au(I) and Au(III) compounds, the complex is stable upon storage, does not require any special handling conditions, and exhibits both good volatility and thermal stability. The compound was tested as a CVD and ALD precursor, yielding good quality films in both processes.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a serious medical condition characterized by elevated pressure in the lung blood vessels, with chronic heart and lung diseases being the most common causes worldwide. However, there is a dearth of studies on the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension and its associated factors among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients in Ethiopia and the study area.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension and its associated factors among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2024.
