Ten recent isolates of canine distemper virus (CDV) strains were classified according to the growth ability and development of syncytial cytopathic effects (CPE) in Vero cells. Strains P94S, Ac96I, S124C, MD231, MS232, MSA5 and 095Cr were classified as Type 1 and exhibited hardly and did not develop CPE in Vero cells. Strains 007Lm, 009L and 011C were classified as Type 2 as grew well but failed to develop a syncytial CPE in Vero cells. A comparison of the phylogenetic trees of the H and P genes showed that all Type 1 strains belonged to the Asia 1 group and all Type 2 strains belonged to the Asia 2 group. Our findings suggest that the recent Asia 2 isolated of CDV in Japan, but not Asia 1 may grow in Vero cells, and their growth ability may be related with their molecular characteristics.

Sesamolin possesses limited aqueous solubility, a drawback for biological activity study in cancer cell models. This study aimed to enhance sesamolin's ability to fight cancer, as it is a bioactive compound with low water solubility found in sesame. We developed different Pickering emulsion delivery systems and tested their anticancer effects on various cancer cell types.

Since 2023, an infectious upper respiratory tract disease has been persisted in outbreaks among in a flock of Cherry Valley ducks in Shandong Province, China. This outbreak was traced to avian metapneumovirus subtype C (aMPV-C), a significant pathogen associated with egg-drop and acute respiratory diseases in poultry. It is noteworthy that prior to this, aMPV-C infection had not been previously documented in Cherry Valley ducks within China.

Abrin Toxin Paradoxically Increases Protein Synthesis in Stimulated CD4 T-Cells While Decreasing Protein Synthesis in Kidney Cells.

Foodborne Toxin Detection and Prevention Research Unit, Western Regional Research Center, Agricultural Research Service, United States Department of Agriculture, Albany, CA 94710, USA.

Abrin, a toxin of the rosary pea plant (), has been implicated as causing an autoimmune demyelinating disease in humans, but the exact mechanisms responsible for the induction of these demyelinating conditions are still unknown. Certain superantigen microbial toxins such as Staphylococcus enterotoxin type A, type D, type E or streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxin type C also lead to various diseases including autoimmune disorders of the nervous system. Here, the effect of abrin toxin on the immune reaction was studied in human CD4 T-cell lines, and its inhibition of protein synthesis in kidney cells.

To clarify the effect of the fluorine atom and piperazine ring on norfloxacin (NOR), NOR degradation products (NOR-DPs, P1-P8) were generated via UV combined with hydrogen peroxide (UV/HO) technology. NOR degradation did not significantly affect cytotoxicity of NOR against BV2, A549, HepG2, and Vero E6 cells. Compared with that of NOR, mutagenicity and median lethal concentration of P1-P8 in fathead minnow were increased, and bioaccumulation factor and oral median lethal dose of P1-P8 in rats were decreased.

Two new compounds including one benzaldehyde () and one azaphilone () were isolated from the marine-derived fungus PSU-AMF89 together with nine known compounds (-). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic evidences. The absolute configuration of was established by comparison of the ECD data with those of the previously reported data of compound as well as the biosynthetic consideration.
