Nursing is a practice profession that transitions some bedside clinicians to another career, such as a nursing faculty member in a university nursing program. Given the current faculty shortage, many clinicians may be considering this kind of transition. The nurse considering such a career change can benefit from learning about the job expectations of academe and being prepared to ask questions in the initial interview that may impact future satisfaction and retention. Awareness of job expectations in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service, and practice and consideration of key levels of individuals who will participate in the series of interviews provide the background for such questions. The lessons learned presented in this article were written a year after one of the author's initial faculty interviews and reflect on the advantages of preparation.

The sharp increase in the cost of living in the UK over the past few years has affected all populations, including higher education students. Many higher education students, including nursing students, are experiencing financial difficulties and concerns, which adversely affect their mental health and can cause them to consider leaving their course. This article reports the findings of an online survey undertaken in one university in Glasgow, Scotland, that aimed to explore the effects of financial stress on second and third-year nursing students.

Background: Individual surgeons' learning curves are a crucial factor impacting patient outcomes. While many studies investigate procedure-specific learning curves, very few carried out a longitudinal analysis of individual cardiac surgeons over the course of their career. Given the evolving landscape of cardiac surgery with the introduction of transcatheter and robotic procedures, a contemporary evaluation of the cardiac surgical learning curve is justified and a method of personal performance monitoring is proposed in this study.
