Estrogen regulates LGR7 (RXFP1) mRNA expression in an in vitro model of human term pregnancy cervix that utilizes lower uterine segment fibroblasts. LGR7 mRNA levels were increased by estradiol to mean levels of 152%+/- 5.9% above those in untreated control cells. Therefore, estradiol may amplify relaxin's actions in the cervix.

G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) transduce extracellular stimuli into the cell interior and are thus centrally involved in almost all physiological-neuronal processes. This essential function and association with many diseases or pathological conditions explain why GPCRs are one of the priority targets in medical and pharmacological research, including structure determination. Despite enormous experimental efforts over the last decade, both the expression and purification of these membrane proteins remain elusive.

The prostate gland is a part of the male reproductive tract which produces both angiotensin II (Ang II) and relaxin 2 (RLN2). The present study analyzes the effect of both these peptide hormones at concentration 10(-8)M on viability, proliferation, adhesion, migration, and invasion of normal prostate epithelial cells (PNT1A). Improved survival in two- and three-dimensional cell cultures was noted as well as visual changes in colony size and structure in Geltrex™.

Pregnancy is characterized by maternal systemic and intrarenal vasodilation, leading to increases in the renal plasma flow (RPF) and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). These responses are mainly mediated by nitric oxide (NO) and relaxin. The impact of cigarette smoking on the maternal adaptations to pregnancy is unclear.

Endometrial LGR7 expression and implantation failure.

Implantation failure is considered as a major cause of infertility in women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) and in otherwise healthy women with unexplained infertility. Preliminary data in primates suggested that relaxin (RLX) is involved in endometrial preparation for implantation. In a prospective observational study, the endometrial RLX receptor (LGR7) expression was assessed in three groups of patients with regular ovulatory cycle and normal uterine cavity: 23 with RPL (Group A), 23 with unexplained infertility undergone at least three cycles of failed in vitro fertilization (IVF) reporting good oocyte and embryo quality (Group B), 23 with proven fertility (Group C).

Leucine-rich repeat containing G protein-coupled receptors (LGRs) comprise a cluster of transmembrane proteins, characterized by the presence of a large N-terminal extracellular domain. This receptor group can be classified into three subtypes. Belonging to the subtype C LGRs are the mammalian relaxin receptors LGR7 (RXFP1) and LGR8 (RXFP2), which mediate important reproductive and other processes.
