Article Abstract
Mercury is surrounded by a tenuous exosphere that is supplied primarily by the planet's surface materials and is known to contain sodium, potassium, and calcium. Observations by the Mercury Atmospheric and Surface Composition Spectrometer during MESSENGER's second Mercury flyby revealed the presence of neutral magnesium in the tail (anti-sunward) region of the exosphere, as well as differing spatial distributions of magnesium, calcium, and sodium atoms in both the tail and the nightside, near-planet exosphere. Analysis of these observations, supplemented by observations during the first Mercury flyby, as well as those by other MESSENGER instruments, suggests that the distinct spatial distributions arise from a combination of differences in source, transfer, and loss processes.

Herein, we present a distorted square pyramidal mercury complex, [HgII(L)Cl] (1), based on a quinoline-substituted formazan ligand LH[3-Cyano-1,5-(quinolin-8-yl)formazan], which was evaluated for its anti-bacterial activity in vitro. Complex 1 was prepared by refluxing 3-Cyano-1,5-(quinolin-8-yl)formazan ligand and mercury chloride(II) in equimolar quantity and was characterized utilizing a range of analytical methods, including single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) technique. The crystal packing in complex 1 has been elucidated using supramolecular investigations, which have shown the presence of fascinating Hg-Cl···Hg intermolecular spodium bonds of the order 3.

As an important link of mercury (Hg) migration and transformation from land to ocean, rivers have been significantly influenced by anthropogenic activities, resulting in unpredictable environmental influences on the basin and offshore areas. In this study, the particulate Hg content of sediments in Xiaolangdi Reservoir (XLDR), Lijin Hydrological Station, and the Yellow River estuarine area during the water-sediment regulation scheme (WSRS) period in 2018 were analyzed, the characteristics and influencing factors of particulate Hg transport were explored. A novel probe NIR8 decorated with colorimetric, fluorometric, turn-on, and NIR properties was designed and synthesized using the chromenylium-cyanine platform for sensitive and selective quantification of Hg in real samples. The interaction between the probe and Hg resulted in the opening of the closed spirolactam ring of the chromenylium-cyanine platform, leading to a notable color shift from yellow to green. Concurrently, ratiometric spectral changes at 380 and 725 nm for UV-Vis and signal enhancement at 755 nm for fluorescence were observed.
