In this study, we examine through electrophysiological measures three alternative mechanisms underlying musical chord priming: psychoacoustic distance, common parent-key, and distance along the circle of fifths. In contrast with previous behavioral studies, we present complex tones which do not blur the melodic component, we present various chord arrangements, and we focus on nonmusicians. Target major chords, in three different harmonic conditions (1, 2, and 4 steps along the circle of fifths between prime and target chords), elicited two centro-anterior negativities labeled N5E (early) and N5L (late) suggesting a dissociation between an earlier psychoacoustic process based on pitch commonality and proximity and a later cognitive process based on a common parent-key.

Purpose: To study the role of artificial intelligence (AI) to identify key risk factors for diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening and develop recommendations based on clinician and large language model (LLM) based AI platform opinions for newly detected diabetes mellitus (DM) cases.
Methods: Five clinicians and three AI applications were given 20 AI-generated hypothetical case scenarios to assess DR screening timing. We calculated inter-rater agreements between clinicians, AI-platforms, and the "majority clinician response" (defined as the maximum number of identical responses provided by the clinicians) and "majority AI-platform" (defined as the maximum number of identical responses among the 3 distinct AI).

Neuroaesthetic research has focused on neural predictive processes involved in the encounter with art stimuli or the related evaluative judgements, and it has been mainly conducted unimodally. Here, with electroencephalography, magnetoencephalography and an affective priming protocol, we investigated whether and how the neural responses to non-representational aesthetic stimuli are top-down modulated by affective representational (i.e.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the amount of microleakage resulting from the application of self-etch, selective etch, etch-and-rinse of adhesive systems in class II cavities.
Materials And Methods: Four adhesive systems with etch-and-rinse, selective etch and self etch methods were used on the extracted teeth. All groups were restored with G-aenial A'CHORD (Nanohybrid) (GC, Tokyo, Japan) A2 composite.

This study examines whether scrambling the order of events in a tonal chord sequence inhibits the speed and accuracy of processing in two behavioral harmonic priming experiments. Sixteen 9-chord sequences were adapted from Bach's chorales that either remained unchanged (thereby reflecting high temporal coherence) or were scrambled to produce increasingly incoherent sequences (i.e.

In Western tonal music, voice leading (VL) and harmony are two central concepts influencing whether a musical sequence is perceived as well-formed. However, experimental studies have primarily focused on the effect of harmony on the cognitive processing of polyphonic music. The additional effect of VL remains unknown, despite music theory suggesting VL to be tightly connected to harmony.
