Macrodactylia fibrolipomatosis is a rare congenital anomaly or neonatal form of enlargement of the digits. An infant with this malady affecting the left foot is described by the author. Initial observation, followed by appropriate surgical intervention, consisted of amputation and debulking procedures. Improved functional and cosmetic appearance is the desired result.

A patient presented with progressive abdominal distention, discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and constipation. The patient also had congenital macrodactyly of the third, fourth, and fifth digits of the left hand. He [corrected] was diagnosed with macrodactylia fibrolipomatosis with multiple small bowel lipomas and complete small bowel obstruction.

Macrodactyly can affect the fingers and/or toes1. Histopathologic examination will distinguish macrodactylia fibrolipomatosis or neural fibrolipoma with macrodactyly, from macrodactylia as a part of neurofibromatosis. Surgical repair is aimed at decreasing the size of the affected foot so it is as near in size and shape to the normal foot as possible.
