We present a laser operating at 517 nm for our Magnesium laser-cooling and atomic clock project. A two-stage Yb-doped fiber amplifier (YDFA) system generates more than 1.5 W of 1034 nm light when seeded with a 15 mW diode laser. Using a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide, we obtained more than 40 mW of 517 nm output power by single pass frequency doubling. In addition, fluorescence spectroscopy of metastable magnesium atoms could be used to stabilize the 517 nm laser to an absolute frequency within 1 MHz.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a high-performance polymer material for developing varying orthopedic, spine, cranial, maxillofacial, and dental implants. Despite their commendable mechanical properties and biocompatibility, the major limitation of PEEK implants is their low affinity to osseointegrate with the neighboring bone. Over the last two decades, several efforts have been made to incorporate bioactive components such as bioceramic particles in PEEK to enhance its osseointegration capacity.

A multifunctional quasi-solid-state polymer electrolyte with highly selective ion highways for practical zinc ion batteries.

The uncontrolled dendrite growth and detrimental parasitic reactions of Zn anodes currently impede the large-scale implementation of aqueous zinc ion batteries. Here, we design a versatile quasi-solid-state polymer electrolyte with highly selective ion transport channels via molecular crosslinking of sodium polyacrylate, lithium magnesium silicate and cellulose nanofiber. The abundant negatively charged ionic channels modulate Zn desolvation process and facilitate ion transport.

Magnesium batteries have emerged as one of the considerable choices for next-generation batteries. Oxide compounds have attracted great attention as cathodes for magnesium batteries because of their high output voltages and ease of synthesis. However, a majority of the reported results are based on metastable nanoscale oxide materials.

Residing in the 5' untranslated region of the mRNA, the 2'-deoxyguanosine (2'-dG) riboswitch mRNA element adopts an alternative structure upon binding of the 2'-dG molecule, which terminates transcription. RNA conformations are generally strongly affected by positively charged metal ions (especially Mg). We have quantitatively explored the combined effect of ligand (2'-dG) and Mg binding on the energy landscape of the aptamer domain of the 2'-dG riboswitch with both explicit solvent all-atom molecular dynamics simulations (99 μsec aggregate sampling for the study) and selective 2'-hydroxyl acylation analyzed by primer extension (SHAPE) experiments.

It is a valid path to realize the zero discharge of coal chemical wastewater by using the fractional crystallization method to recycle the miscellaneous salt in high-salinity wastewater. In this study, the thermodynamics and nucleation kinetics of sodium chloride (NaCl) and sodium sulfate (NaSO) crystallization in coal chemical wastewater were systematically studied. Through analyses of solubility, metastable zone width, and induction period, it was found that the impurity dimethoxymethane would increase the solid-liquid interface energy and critical crystal size during the nucleation of NaSO.
