(Triptycenedicarboxylato)zinc metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on paddle wheel secondary building units (SBUs) with different axial ligands have been prepared. The reproducible formation of the layered paddle-wheel structures from triptycenedicarboxylic acid (H(2)TDC) and zinc nitrate under various conditions seems to be characteristic of this acid and is utilized for the construction of 3D frameworks by a pillaring approach. We attempted to bring additional functionalities into MOFs by employing the appropriate pillaring ligands, for example, bis(4-pyridyl)-s-tetrazine and bis(4-pyridyl)-dimethoxy-p-phenylenedivinylene, and investigated certain properties of some MOF materials, such as guest-exchange behavior, luminescence, microporosity, and stability.

Background: The process of B cell activation and plasma cell (PC) formation involves morphological, transcriptional, and metabolic changes in the B cell. Blocking or reducing PC differentiation is one approach to treat autoimmune diseases that are characterized by the presence of pathogenic autoantibodies. Recent studies have suggested the potential of myricetin, a natural flavonoid with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, to block or reduce PC differentiation.

FGF-based drug discovery: advances and challenges.

Nat Rev Drug Discov

January 2025

Institute of Cell Growth Factor, Oujiang Laboratory, Zhejiang Lab for Regenerative Medicine, Vision, and Brain Health, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China.

The fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family comprises 15 paracrine-acting and 3 endocrine-acting polypeptides, which govern a multitude of processes in human development, metabolism and tissue homeostasis. Therapeutic endocrine FGFs have recently advanced in clinical trials, with FGF19 and FGF21-based therapies on the cusp of approval for the treatment of primary sclerosing cholangitis and metabolic syndrome-associated steatohepatitis, respectively. By contrast, while paracrine FGFs were once thought to be promising drug candidates for wound healing, burns, tissue repair and ischaemic ailments based on their potent mitogenic and angiogenic properties, repeated failures in clinical trials have led to the widespread perception that the development of paracrine FGF-based drugs is not feasible.

Analysis of the spatial distribution of metabolites in Aloe vera leaves by mass spectrometry imaging and UHPLC-UHRMS.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Polymers and Biopolymers, Faculty of Chemistry, Rzeszów University of Technology, 6 Powstańców Warszawy Ave., Rzeszów, 35-959, Poland.

This study presents an investigation of the chemical composition of Aloe vera leaf tissue with a focus on the spatial distribution of compounds. The composition was studied using two mass spectrometry imaging techniques: silver-109 nanoparticles assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (AgNPs-LDI-MSI) and laser ablation-remote atmospheric pressure photoionization/chemical ionization mass spectrometry imaging (LARAPPI/CI-MSI) and the identification was aided by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography and ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-UHRMS) analysis. The results showed an abundance of phenolic compounds with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a beneficial food additive and food packaging material.

Malachite green (MG) is used as a dye for materials such as wood, cotton, and nylon, and is used in aquaculture to prevent fungal and protozoan diseases. However, it is highly toxic, with carcinogenic, mutagenic, and teratogenic properties, resulting in bans worldwide. Despite this, MG is still frequently used in many countries due to its efficacy and economy.
