Combining atomic force microscopy with an ion-sensitive field effect transistor we provide a novel potentiometer capable of measuring a surface potential change as small as 100 microV at 0.2 nm spatial resolution when two charged bodies approach in an electrolyte solution. The surface potential measured when two silica surfaces approach deviates significantly from values inferred indirectly by conventional analysis of force curves. The new data elucidate the way charge redistributes between two nonidentical surfaces and allow clear separation of electrostatics from other contributions to the interaction such as van der Waals and hydration forces.

Smartphone-based colorimetric (bio)sensing is a promising alternative to conventional detection equipment for on-site testing, but it is often limited by sensitivity to lighting conditions. These issues are usually avoided using housings with fixed light sources, increasing the cost and complexity of the on-site test, where simplicity, portability, and affordability are a priority. In this study, we demonstrate that careful optimization of color space can significantly boost the performance of smartphone-based colorimetric sensing, enabling housing-free, illumination-invariant detection.

There is limited research on the influence of environmental variables on the interactions of biodegradable microplastics with chromium. This study reports the results of adsorption experiments with Cr and poly(lactic acid) (PLA) in synthetic aqueous solutions. It addresses the influence of the initial oxidation state, Cr(III) or Cr(VI), the effects of UV irradiation and the presence of organic matter.

This paper introduces a highly absorbent and sensitive cellulose nanofiber (CNF)/gold nanorod (GNR)@Ag surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor, fabricated using the vacuum filtration method. By optimizing the Ag thickness in the GNR@Ag core-shell structures and integrating them with CNFs, optimal SERS hotspots were identified using the Raman probe molecule 4-aminothiophenol (4-ATP). To concentrate pesticides extracted from fruit and vegetable surfaces, we utilized the evaporation enrichment effect using hydrophilic CNF and hole-punched hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).

This study examines the presence of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the surface sediments and water of the Ashtamudi wetland, a Ramsar site on India's southwest coast. The average concentration of PTEs in water(μg/L) and in sediments (mg/kg) follows the order Fe(147.89) > Zn(107.

Background: Although the method of autocalibration or calibration based on catheter diameters was proposed for fluoroscopic measurement during percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), it may be imprecise and lead to mismeasurement. We sought to investigate whether the utilization of the surface steel ball calibration (SSBC) method under fluoroscopy could facilitate the fluoroscopic measurement of the post-implanted WATCHMAN device (Boston Scientific Corporation, Natick, MA, USA) in LAAO.
Methods: This retrospective study included 97 consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous LAAO with the WATCHMAN device.
