We present a two-step route to produce a hierarchical cauliflower-like gold structure that involves the adsorption of gold nanoparticles described by the random sequential adsorption (RSA) model, followed by the electrochemical growth on the surfaces of the primary gold nanoparicles. The structure was confirmed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer analysis (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). After fluoroalkylsilane modification, the cauliflower-like structured surface exhibits a high contact angle and a low sliding angle.

The present research was conducted to design and construct an electrochemical aptasensor for evaluating carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) as a biomarker for breast cancer. The aptasensor has been fabricated by a gold thin film (AuTF) electrodeposited on a cauliflower-like reduced graphene oxide-molybdenum sulfide nanocomposite (rGO-MoS). The modified electrode's surface was used to immobilize the thiolated aptamer, which was subsequently treated with CA 15-3 antigen.

Ordered, hierarchical structures formed from nanoparticle (NP) self-assembly are of interest as they display the synergistic properties of the individual NP. Herein we report a one-pot approach to form and self-assemble gold (Au) nanoplatelets into brick-wall like (BWL) Au superparticles (AuSPs). We employ an aniline (ANI) derivative, N-(3-amidino)-aniline (NAAN) to reduce the Au precursor into Au nanoplatelets in the presence of Br.

In Vivo Neural Recording and Electrochemical Performance of Microelectrode Arrays Modified by Rough-Surfaced AuPt Alloy Nanoparticles with Nanoporosity.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2016

Key Laboratory of Biomedical Information Engineering of the Ministry of Education, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, School of Life Science and Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, China.

In order to reduce the impedance and improve in vivo neural recording performance of our developed Michigan type silicon electrodes, rough-surfaced AuPt alloy nanoparticles with nanoporosity were deposited on gold microelectrode sites through electro-co-deposition of Au-Pt-Cu alloy nanoparticles, followed by chemical dealloying Cu. The AuPt alloy nanoparticles modified gold microelectrode sites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and in vivo neural recording experiment. The SEM images showed that the prepared AuPt alloy nanoparticles exhibited cauliflower-like shapes and possessed very rough surfaces with many different sizes of pores.
