Background: Vascular calcification is a detrimental aging pathology markedly accelerated in patients with chronic kidney disease. Prelamin A is a biomarker of vascular smooth muscle cell aging that accelerates calcification however the mechanisms remain undefined.
Methods: Vascular smooth muscle cells were transduced with prelamin A using an adenoviral vector and epigenetic modifications were monitored using immunofluorescence and targeted polymerase chain reaction array.
Fahr's syndrome (FS) is a rare disorder characterized by intracerebral calcification, presenting with various neuropsychiatric symptoms. This case highlights a rare presentation of FS with secondary hyperparathyroidism. It underscores the importance of comprehensive evaluation of early symptoms, effective use of diagnostic procedures, and proper management of symptoms.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the risk of aortic stenosis (AS) and worsens its pathophysiology in a sex-specific manner. Aldosterone/mineralocorticoid receptor (Aldo/MR) pathway participates in early stages of AS and in other diabetic-related cardiovascular complications. We aim to identify new sex-specific Aldo/MR targets in AS complicated with DM.

Background: Spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) has been reported to be associated with osteosarcoma lung metastases, but the computed tomography (CT) characteristics of lung metastases in patients with pneumothorax have not been comprehensively described. The study aimed to describe the CT characteristics of lung metastases in patients with osteosarcoma and to identify factors associated with SP.
Methods: This study comprised 123 patients diagnosed with osteosarcoma lung metastasis at our hospital between January 2016 and December 2021.

A woman in her 70s with hypertension, breast cancer and diverticulosis underwent laparoscopic anterior resection for a tubule-villous adenoma, converted to open Hartmann's with aorto-bi-iliac bypass due to a vascular injury. Intraoperative complications included haem-o-lok penetration of the calcified aorta, necessitating vascular team intervention. Postoperative issues included bilateral popliteal artery emboli requiring embolectomy and fasciotomy, and a parastomal abscess.
