Neutralization of interleukin 4 (IL-4) at the time of infection with Leishmania major allowed susceptible BALB/c mice to heal. Recombinant IL-4, however, had little effect on the course of L. major infection in resistant C57BL/6 mice, nor did coinfection with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, despite marked elevation of endogenous IL-4 levels.

Efficacy of cartilage-targeted IGF-1 in a mouse model of growth hormone insensitivity.

Recombinant human IGF-1 is used to treat severe primary IGF-1 deficiency, but this treatment requires twice-daily injection, often does not fully correct the growth deficit, and has important off-target effects. We therefore sought to target IGF-1 to growth plate cartilage by generating fusion proteins combining IGF-1 with single-chain human antibody fragments that target matrilin-3, a cartilage matrix protein. We previously showed that this cartilage-targeting IGF-1 fusion protein (CV1574-1) promoted growth plate function in a GH-deficient (lit) mouse model.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder in women of reproductive age. Anovulation is one of the most important clinical features of PCOS, and insulin resistance (IR) is one of the critical pathogenic factors. Woxuanzhongzhou (WXZZ) is a traditional herbal formulation that has shown efficacy in treating PCOS combined with IR, but the underlying mechanism is not clear.

Background: Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on immune cells is correlated with the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy in various types of cancer. Platelets are important components of the tumour microenvironment (TME) and are widely involved in the development of many types of cancer including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the role of PD-L1 positive platelets in ICI therapy for CRC remains unknown.

Resistant starch inhibits high-fat diet-induced oncogenic responses in the colon of C57BL/6 mice.

The beneficial effects of dietary fiber for colon health may be due to short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), such as butyrate, produced by colonic bacterial fermentation. In contrast, obesogenic diet induced obesity is linked to increased colon cancer incidence. We hypothesize that increasing fiber intake promotes healthy microbiome and reduces bacterial dysbiosis and oncogenic signaling in the colon of mice fed an obesogenic diet.
