Motion tracking was performed during a combined phacoemulsification (PKE) and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) procedure on a pig eyeball. The UCLA Laparoscopic Training System (UCLA-LTS), which consists of electromagnetic sensors attached to the surgical tools to measure three-dimensional spatial vectors, was modified to enable quantification of intraocular surgery motions. The range of motion and time taken to complete the given task were successfully recorded.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to test whether oral administration of nicotinamide riboside (NR), the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) precursors, protect retina ganglion cells (RGCs) from neurodegeneration in DBA/2J (D2) mice, which is a widely used mouse model of age-related inherited glaucoma.
Method: Oral NR or NAM administration (NR low dose: 1150mg/kg; NR high dose: 4200mg/kg; NAM low dose group: 500mg/kg; NAM high dose: 2000mg/kg of body weight per day) essentially started when D2 mice were 4 or 9 months old and continued up to 12 months old. Control cohort identically received food/water without NAM or NR.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Current treatments focus on reducing intraocular pressure but cannot restore lost visual function once it is lost due to retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration and death. Recent advances suggest that transplantation of stem cell-derived RGCs could offer new therapeutic approaches for glaucoma and vision restoration.

Optical coherence elastography (OCE) has recently been used to characterize the natural frequencies of delicate tissues (e.g., the human cornea) with sub-micron tissue oscillation magnitudes.

Purpose: To investigate the risk factors related to decrease in vessel density (VD) observed in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), due to acute increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) by an ophthalmodynamometer (OPD).
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 42 eyes of participants (22 Controls and 20 POAG patients) that underwent optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) to assess VD in the peripapillary region in three examination sets: primary gaze position (1), 25-degree adduction (2) and 25-degree adduction with OPD compression (3). Individual relationships between IOP levels and changes in the superficial complex VD were evaluated after image processing and exclusion of large retinal vessels.
