This paper presents a new proposal of a very low cost and highly efficient interference canceller to be applied to biomedical signals. The power line reference is obtained from analog to digital conversion while higher harmonics are mathematically estimated by means of trigonometric relations. These signals are processed by an adaptive algorithm in order to suppress harmonic interference. Biomedical acquisition systems that incorporate a conventional adaptive canceller, whose reference signal is sampled from power line, can be easily modified to improve interference suppression without hardware modifications. Real application examples are supplied in order to demonstrate its usefulness in electroencephalographic, electrocardiographic and auditory evoked potential signals.

This study reports on the development of a highly sensitive non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor based on a two-dimensional TiCT/MWCNT-OH nanocomposite for the detection of paraoxon-based pesticide. The synergistic effect between the TiCT nanosheet and the functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes enhanced the sensor's conductivity and catalytic activity. The nanocomposite demonstrates superior electrochemical and electroanalytical performance compared to the pristine TiCT and MWCNT-OH in detecting paraoxon-ethyl in fruit samples (green and red grapes), with a linear response range from 0.

γ-Glutamylcysteine (γ-EC) can increase intracellular glutathione (GSH) levels, which may prevent and alleviate age-related disorders and chronic diseases caused by oxidative damage. However, the commercial availability of γ-EC remains limited owing to its complex chemical synthesis from glutamate and cysteine. In this study, we have developed the method of the effective conversion of GSH to γ-EC to achieve the optimal reaction conditions for repeated batch production and potential application in industrial γ-EC production using the phytochelatin synthase-like enzyme NsPCS.

Background: Lugol's chromoendoscopy (LCE) is valuable, cost-effective, and widely used in early esophageal cancer (EEC) screening, yet it suffers from low compliance due to adverse events after LCE. In addition, the reflux of iodine during iodine staining in the upper esophagus brings the risk of bucking and aspiration. We introduced a new model called distance countdown (DC) aimed to reduce reflux during iodine staining in upper esophageal LCE.

Objective: Guatemala has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in Central America. A total of 60% of births in Guatemala are attended by traditional Mayan birth attendants, or comadronas. Their prevalence in these communities makes them a valuable resource to bridge home births with safe prenatal care.

Introduction: Asthma imposes a critical economic burden on health systems, especially with the incorporation of new drugs. Recently, mepolizumab has been approved to prevent exacerbations in patients with eosinophilic asthma, however their high cost constitutes a barrier for their use, especially in middle- and low-income countries. This study aimed to estimate the economically justifiable price of mepolizumab for preventing exacerbations in patients with severe asthma in Colombia.
