The authors describe the color flow pattern in a patient with right ventricle myxoma and outflow obstruction. A systolic eccentric mosaic color jet, flowing in a thin space between the tumor and the right ventricle outlet wall, was observed. The color Doppler imaging easily detected flow abnormalities, greatly simplified the correct alignment of continuous wave Doppler beam in the estimation of the pressure gradient and allowed a good evaluation of tumor hemodynamic effects.

Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is generally characterized by decreased cardiac ejection fraction (EF) reversibility, less cardiac response to fluid resuscitation and catecholamine, and rarely complicated with refractory ventricular fibrillation (RVF). Once RVF is induced, the mortality rate of sepsis patients will be greatly increased. In this case, we reported a 26-year-old female patient who was diagnosed sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC), presented with RVF for 36 hours.

The importance of polyamines (PAs) for the central nervous system (CNS) is well known. Less clear, however, is where PAs in the brain are derived from. Principally, there are three possibilities: (i) intake by nutrition, release into the bloodstream, and subsequent uptake from CNS capillaries, (ii) production by parenchymatous organs, such as the liver, and again uptake from CNS capillaries, and (iii) uptake of precursors, such as arginine, from the blood and subsequent local biosynthesis of PAs within the CNS.

Platypnea-orthodeoxia Syndrome is characterized by clinically significant postural hypoxia. The full spectrum of the syndrome includes intracardial and extracardial abnormalities with R->L shunt. Various concurrent underlying physiological abnormalities are usually encountered that require thorough clinical and laboratory evaluation.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung cancer patients often suffer from brain metastases (BM), leading to poor survival rates even with treatments like surgery and radiation therapy.
  • The study investigated the role of hypoxia (low oxygen conditions) in BM using various methods, including biopsies and advanced imaging techniques, showing it is a significant and varied characteristic of lung cancer BM.
  • Hypoxia-image-guided radiotherapy (HIGRT) demonstrated promising results in managing tumor growth and increasing survival in preclinical models, suggesting its potential for improving treatment outcomes in lung cancer patients with BM.

Specific biological properties of those circulating cancer cells that are the origin of brain metastases (BM) are not well understood. Here, single circulating breast cancer cells were fate-tracked during all steps of the brain metastatic cascade in mice after intracardial injection over weeks. A novel two-photon microscopy methodology was developed that allowed to determine the specific cellular and molecular features of breast cancer cells that homed in the brain, extravasated, and successfully established a brain macrometastasis.
