Two cases of children with liver and spleen enlargement are reported. Sea-blue histiocytes and Pick cells were found in both cases in liver, spleen, bone marrow and blood. Further more, lysobisphodphatidic acids were identified in phospholipid analysis of liver biopsies and cultived liver cells. Absence of neurologic involvement at 14 and 18 years fo age suggest a Crocker type C of Niemann-Pick disease, i.e. a not yet well defined entity. Resemblance of these morphological and biochemical abnormalities with certain cases of drug poisoning (especially the well-known intoxication by 4-4' DET) is discussed on the basis of results from experimental studies with this drug in the rat.

Objective: Vitamin D status has been associated with sex steroid production. The question is whether vitamin D supplementation has an impact on sex steroid production in infertile men with vitamin D insufficiency?
Design: A single-center, double-blinded, randomized clinical trial. Differences in sex steroids and reproductive hormones were predefined secondary outcomes, vitamin D status at baseline was a predefined subgroup and the primary outcome was differences in semen quality.

The essential oil of bergamot (BEO) has consistently proven antinociceptive and antiallodynic properties. Accordingly, the analgesic efficacy of the decolored essential oil (DEC), with higher levels of limonene, and the deterpenated (DET) fraction, with higher levels of linalool and linalyl acetate, was investigated using a formalin test after inhalation. The present study was aimed at characterizing the effects of BEO, its components with the highest pharmacological activity (represented by linalool, limonene, and linalyl acetate), and its DEC and DET fractions on the formalin test after transdermal administration relevant to clinical translation through topical application.
