Constipation is found in individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and cerebral palsy. Although generally a benign condition, it may lead to life-threatening intestinal obstruction, with or without volvulus, or to stercoral ulceration with enteritis and/or perforation. Two unusual cases of lethal chronic constipation are reported to demonstrate other very rare fatal mechanisms that may occur.

Valentino's syndrome is a rare but potentially lethal differential diagnosis for acute appendicitis. We herein present the case of a 22-year-old male patient who presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain. Clinical suspicion of acute appendicitis was corroborated by analytical and imaging findings.

Antiangiogenic drugs may cause vascular normalization and correct hypoxia in tumors, shifting cells to mitochondrial respiration as the primary source of energy. In turn, the addition of an inhibitor of mitochondrial respiration to antiangiogenic therapy holds potential to induce synthetic lethality. This study evaluated the mitochondrial inhibitor ME-344 in combination with bevacizumab in patients with refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

Injuries to the inferior vena cava (IVC) carry high risks and mortality rates. We present a case of suprahepatic IVC injury that was successfully treated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft insertion without cardiopulmonary bypass. A 46-year-old woman was transferred to our trauma centre after a high-speed motor vehicle collision.
