Introduction: Receptor CD36 is involved in foam cells formation and in atherogenesis. Visceral obesity is important risk factor of accelerated atherosclerosis. There are no data about the role of CD36 in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in women with visceral obesity. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of visceral obesity on CD36 expression on peripheral blood monocytes.

Material And Methods: CD36 expression was evaluated (by flow cytometry) in study population consisted of 30 women aged 25-45 years (mean 34.03 +/- 11.14) with visceral obesity. Control group consisted of 15 nonobese women aged 25-45 years (mean 31.93 +/- 2.43). Physical examination was performed with body mass, BMI, waist and hip circumferences, waist to hip ratio evaluation. Oral glucose tolerance test was performed with estimation of glucose and insulin concentrations.

Results: Body mass, BMI, WHR, waist and hip circumferences were significantly higher in obese than in nonobese women. Glucose and insulin concentrations in 0', 30' 60' of OGTT as well as HOMA and FIRI values were significantly higher in obese than in nonobese women. Expression of CD36 on monocytes was significantly lower in obese women (mean 62.99 +/- 18.07) than in controls (mean 82.5 +/- 22.93). There were not significant correlations between CD36 expression and BMI, WHR and IR indexes.

Conclusions: Expression of scavenger receptor CD36 on monocytes in obese women is significantly lower than in lean individuals. This observation needs further investigations.

Background: The inheritance of the short allele, encoding the serotonin transporter (SERT) in humans, increases susceptibility to neuropsychiatric and metabolic disorders, with aging and female sex further exacerbating these conditions. Both central and peripheral mechanisms of the compromised serotonin (5-HT) system play crucial roles in this context. Previous studies on SERT-deficient (Sert) mice, which model human SERT deficiency, have demonstrated emotional and metabolic disturbances, exacerbated by exposure to a high-fat Western diet (WD).

Background: Metabolism alteration is a common complication of rheumatic arthritis (RA). This work investigated the reason behind RA-caused triglyceride (TG) changes.

Methods: Fresh RA patients' whole blood was transfused into NOD-SCID mice.

The role of metabolic reprogramming of the tumor immune microenvironment in cancer development and immune escape has increasingly attracted attention. However, the predictive value of differences in metabolism-immune microenvironment on the prognosis of colon cancer (CC) and the response to immunotherapy have not been elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in metabolism and immune profile of CC and to identify a reliable signature for predicting prognosis and therapeutic response.

A Proteomic Study Based on Home Quarantine Model Identifies NQO1 and Inflammation Pathways Involved in Adenoid Hypertrophy.

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Background: Adenoid hypertrophy is a common disorder of childhood, and has an unclear pathogenesis. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant reduction in the incidence of adenoid hypertrophy in children under long-term home quarantine, providing a rare research model to explore the pathogenesis and treatment targets of adenoidal hypertrophy in children.

Methodology: Before and during the home quarantine period, adenoids that underwent surgery were detected using label-free proteomics.

This in vivo mouse model study was conducted to investigate the temporal alteration of the function of CD36 in salivary secretion. CD36 was highly expressed in the parotid gland of BALB/c mice. No significant variations were shown in the CD36 levels in the 8-, 48-, and 72-week-old animals.
