The tescalcin gene (Tesc) encodes an EF-hand calcium-binding protein that interacts with the sodium/hydrogen exchanger, NHE1. Previous studies indicated that Tesc was expressed in mouse embryonic testis, but not in ovary, during the critical period of testis and ovary determination. In this paper we compared the expression of Tesc in embryonic tissues of chicken and mouse. Tesc expression was sexually dimorphic in the embryonic gonads of both mouse and chicken. Tescalcin (TESC) was detected in both Sertoli cells and germ cells. In the embryonic brain of both mouse and chicken, Tesc was highly expressed in the nasal placode and in fibers extending from the olfactory epithelium to the primordial olfactory bulb. Tesc was expressed in the embryonic heart of both chicken and mouse. In mouse Tesc expression was also detected in embryonic adrenal. These studies indicate very specific expression of Tesc in various tissues in chicken and mouse during embryologic development, and conservation of Tesc expression in both species.

Signals from the lens regulate multiple aspects of eye development, including establishment of eye size, patterning of the presumptive iris and ciliary body in the anterior optic cup and migration and differentiation of neural crest cells. To advance understanding of the molecular mechanism by which the lens regulates eye development, we performed transcriptome profiling of embryonic chicken retinas after lens removal. Genes associated with nervous system development were upregulated in lens-removed eyes, but the presumptive ciliary body and iris region did not adopt a neural retina identity following lens removal.

Due to the lack of specific antibody anti-chicken tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 2 (TRAF2), it is difficult to further explore the role of TRAF2 in pulmonary artery remodeling in pulmonary hypertension(PH) in broilers. In this experiment, we prepared a polyclonal antibody to TRAF2 by constructing a TRAF2 recombinant protein prokaryotic expression vector and analyzed the expression of TRAF2 in in vivo and in vitro models of pulmonary hypertension in broiler chickens and the effect of TRAF2 on the activity and apoptosis of PASMCs. The results showed that after immunization with TRAF2 recombinant protein we obtained high titers of polyclonal antibodies, and astragalus polysaccharide as an immune adjuvant could enhance the effect of immunization.

Hydrogels based on supramolecular assemblies offer attractive features for biomedical applications including injectability or versatile combinations of various building blocks. We here investigate a system combining benzenetrispeptides (BTP), which forms supramolecular fibers, with polymer polyethylene oxide (PEO) forming a dense hydrophilic shell around the fibers. Hydrogels are created through the addition of a bifunctional crosslinker (CL).

Background: Pimozide is a conventional antipsychotic drug of the diphenylbutylpiperidine class, widely used for treating schizophrenia and delusional disorders and for managing motor and phonic tics in Tourette's syndrome. Pimozide is known to block dopaminergic D2 receptors and various types of voltage-gated ion channels. Among its side effects, dizziness and imbalance are the most frequently observed, which may imply an effect of the drug on the vestibular sensory receptors, the hair cells.

Chicken yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) is a natural immunologically active antibody extracted from egg yolk and can be used as a natural dietary supplement for the treatment of inflammation and damage to the intestines. In our study, IgY was embedded in a double emulsion (W/O/W; DE) to explore the therapeutic effect of the embedded IgY on Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced jejunal injury in mice. The results showed that W/O/W-embedded IgY as a dietary supplement (IgY + DE) attenuated LPS-induced damage to mouse small intestinal structures and protected the integrity of the jejunal mucosal barrier.
