The treatment of Mycobacterium avium infections is still long, complex, and often poorly tolerated, besides emergence of resistances. New active molecules that are more effective and better tolerated are deeply needed. Mefloquine and its enantiomers ((+) Erythro-mefloquine ((+)-EMQ) and (-)-Erythro-mefloquine ((-)-EMQ)) have shown efficacy in both in vitro and in vivo, in a mouse model of M.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the therapeutic potential of copper-64 (Cu)-DOTHA-PSMA for treating prostate cancer, building on previous findings related to its use in PET imaging.
  • LNCaP tumor-bearing mice were treated with Cu-DOTHA-PSMA, and results showed that this treatment led to longer survival compared to both a control group and lutetium-177 (Lu)-PSMA-617, while maintaining normal red blood cell levels and showing minimal radiation injury.
  • Overall, Cu-DOTHA-PSMA was indicated to be an effective treatment option with manageable toxicity, although there are concerns about radiation exposure to the liver and gastrointestinal tract.

Incidence, characteristics, and mortality of infective endocarditis in France in 2011.

PLoS One

March 2020

CHRU de Tours, Unité d'Épidémiologie des données cliniques, EpiDcliC, Tours, France.

Objectives: We assessed the determinants of mortality in infective endocarditis (IE), using the national hospital discharge databases (HDD) in 2011.

Methods: IE stays were extracted from the national HDD, with a definition based on IE-related diagnosis codes. This definition has been assessed according to Duke criteria by checking a sample of medical charts of IE giving a predictive positive value of 86.

We compared the effects of single intraveinous injection of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide-38 (P38) to those of its analog, acetyl-[Ala, Ala]PACAP-38-propylamide (P38-alg) on spatial memory in the Morris water maze (MWM) using a weak massed-learning procedure, post-training brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and post-training oxidative stress biomarker assays in male Wistar rats. Acquisition of the MWM task following P38 (30 μg/kg) and P38-alg (30 μg/kg) treatments was similar to control group (Saline: 0.9% NaCl) and there was no interaction between treatments and performance.

Aim: To study the tolerance and the efficiency of FOLFIRINOX in elderly patients diagnosed with colorectal or pancreatic cancer.

Methods: This retrospective study included elderly patients aged over 70 years of age treated at Georges-Francois Leclerc Center by FOLFIRINOX for histological proved colorectal or pancreatic cancer between January 2009 and January 2015. Chemotheapy regimen consisted of oxaliplatin (85 mg/m in over 120 min) followed by leucovorin (400 mg/m in over 120 min), with the addition, after 30 min of irinotecan (180 mg/m in over 90 min) then 5 fluorouracil (5FU) (400 mg/m administred intravenous bolus), followed by 5FU (2400 mg/m intraveinous infusion over 46 h) repeated every 2 wk.
