The author describes injecting hyaluronic acid (Restylane) in the lower eyelids. The key to the superficial injection technique he prefers, which he describes as "technically difficult," is to minimize the volume injected per pass. Furthermore, he discourages massage, which increases eyelid swelling, unless absolutely necessary.

The Restylane® portfolio of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers comprises a broad range of products, each with a unique combination of gel strength/firmness and flexibility. Restylane® Shaype™ (HASHA) is a new HA injectable produced with NASHA-HD™ technology and the most recent addition to the Restylane portfolio. NASHA-HD is an evolution of the NASHA™ platform that adds more HA and uses a more efficient cross-linking even though the degree of modification is kept low.

Comparative Trial Evaluating a High- Versus Low-Integration Hyaluronic Acid Filler for Contouring the Jawline.

Aesthetic Plast Surg

September 2024

Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthstic Surgery, McGill University Health Center, Montreal General Hospital, Montreal, QC, Canada.

Background: Contour deficits of the jawline are an area of concern for many aesthetic patients. While the use of hyaluronic acid (HA) for jawline enhancement has been described previously, comparative investigations of HA fillers manufactured with different technologies are limited. Therefore, the aim of the current investigation was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Restylane Lyft (HA-L) and Restylane Defyne (HA-D) for contouring of the jawline.

Background: Soft-tissue fillers, specifically hyaluronic acid fillers, can reduce many signs of aging by treating the associated loss of subcutaneous fat and midfacial contour deficiencies. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the effectiveness and safety of Belotero Volume Lidocaine (BVL) compared with Restylane (RES, control) is noninferior in the treatment of severe nasolabial folds (NLFs) in Chinese patients.

Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, controlled, split-face clinical study.

Background: There are significant differences in the reported incidence of vascular complications that result from the injection of different soft tissue fillers. This study aimed to compare the risk of vascular embolism after recombinant type III collagen implants and hyaluronic acid (HA) injection into arteries.

Methods: Different concentrations of recombinant type III collagen and Restylane were injected into the central ear artery of rabbits, to construct an immediate embolization model.

Restylane® Lidocaine is one of the most widely used hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers to replace lost or displaced volume during tear trough correction. Patient goals for tear trough correction include looking less tired or removing dark circles and this may be achieved by administering HA filler into the infraorbital region to correct the lower eyelid relative to the volume deficit, thereby smoothing the transition from the lower eyelid to the cheek. To achieve patient satisfaction and consistent results with Restylane, optimal application is essential; however, clinical guidance based on experience is limited.
