We study theoretically and verify experimentally the detailed dynamics of spin-to-orbital angular momentum conversion for a circularly polarized Gaussian beam propagating along the optical axis of a uniaxial crystal. We extend the results to the case of white-light beams when each of the spectral components undergoes its own wavelength-dependent angular momentum conversion process.

Polarization ellipses are well-known as the result of coherent superposition of photonic spin states. As orbital counterparts, in this Letter, we introduce centroid ellipses that are geometrically mapped from optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) superpositions on a modal Poincaré sphere (PS) by coaxial interference. Different from not easily observable polarization ellipses, these centroid ellipses can be directly observed from dynamical interferograms with broken rotational symmetry.

In this work, we theoretically explore whether a parity-violating/chiral light-matter interaction is required to capture all relevant aspects of chiral polaritonics or if a parity-conserving/achiral theory is sufficient (e.g., long-wavelength/dipole approximation).

Whispering-gallery mode (WGM) resonators, renowned for their high Q-factors and narrow line widths, are widely utilized in integrated photonics. Integrating diffraction gratings onto WGM cavities has gained significant attention because these gratings function as azimuthal refractive index modulators, enabling single-mode WGM emissions and supporting beams with orbital angular momentum (OAM). The introduction of curved grating structures facilitates guided mode resonances by coupling high-order diffracted waves with leaking modes from the waveguide.

We demonstrate that working with a correct phase-space electronic Hamiltonian captures electronic inertial effects. In particular, we show that phase space surface hopping dynamics do not suffer (at least to very high order) from non-physical non-adiabatic transitions between electronic eigenstates during the course of pure nuclear translational and rotational motion. This work opens up many new avenues for quantitatively investigating complex phenomena, including angular momentum transfer between chiral phonons and electrons as well as chiral-induced spin selectivity effects.
