Effective devotion: An efficient cobalt-catalyzed method devoted to the formation of symmetrical biaryls is described avoiding the preparation of organometallic reagents. Various aromatic halides functionalized by a variety of reactive group reagents are employed. Preliminary DFT calculations have shown that the involvement of a Co(I)/Co(III) couple is realistic at least in the case of 1,3-diazadienes as ligands (FG = functional group).

Heterogeneity is ubiquitous in biological and synthetic active matter systems that are inherently out of equilibrium. Typically, such active mixtures involve not only conservative interactions between the constituents but also nonreciprocal couplings, whose full consequences for the collective behavior still remain elusive. Here, we study a minimal active nonreciprocal mixture with both symmetric isotropic and nonreciprocal polar interactions.

The mechanisms underlying the establishment of asymmetric structures during development remain elusive. The wing of Drosophila is asymmetric along the Anterior-Posterior (AP) axis, but the developmental origins of this asymmetry is unknown. Here, we investigate the contribution of cell recruitment, a process that drives cell fate differentiation in the Drosophila wing disc, to the asymmetric shape and pattern of the adult wing.

Background: Neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD), are composed of highly phosphorylated forms of the microtubule-associated protein tau. Phosphorylation results from the activity of several threonine/serine kinases, and increased expression of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β). These are involved in the formation of paired helical filament (PHF)-tau, which induces the formation of NFTs.

DtpC was isolated from the ditryptophenaline biosynthetic pathway found in filamentous fungi as a cytochrome P450 (P450) that catalyzes the dimerization of diketopiperazines. More recently, several similar P450s were discovered. While a vast majority of such P450s generate asymmetric diketopiperazine dimers, DtpC and other fungal P450s predominantly catalyze the formation of symmetric dimer products.

Unlabelled: Flavivirus envelope (E) and precursor M (prM) proteins, when ectopically expressed, assemble into empty, virus-like particles (VLPs). Cleavage of prM to M and loss of the pr fragment converts the VLPs from immature to mature particles, mimicking a similar maturation of authentic virions. Most of the VLPs obtained by prM-E expression are smaller than virions; early, low-resolution cryo-EM studies suggested a simple, 60-subunit, icosahedral organization.
