A size selective nanorattle was formed by encapsulating soybean peroxidase (SBP) within a ZnS mesoporous hollow sphere. Once encapsulated within the mesoporous hollow sphere, the SBP remained active against molecules smaller than the 3 nm diameter of the mesopores in the shell wall, while molecules larger than the mesopores, which could not pass into the hollow sphere, did not interact with the SBP. Specifically, encapsulated SBP catalyzed the oxidation of Amplex Ultra-Red, a small fluorogen, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, encapsulated SBP was deactivated by sodium azide, and no reaction was observed between encapsulated SBP and a greater than 3 nm diameter protease.

This work explores the enhancement of EMI shielding efficiency of polyurethane (PU) foam by loading multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNTs)-decorated hollow glass microspheres (HGMs). MWCNT was coated onto the HGM surface by a simple solution casting technique. The coated HGM particles were loaded in PU foams, resulting in an even dispersion of MWCNT in the foam struts, thereby forming an interconnected conductive network in the polymer matrix.

The limited transport of oxygen at the solid-liquid interface and the poor charge separation efficiency of single catalyst significantly impedes the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby weakening the application potential of photocatalytic technology in water pollution control. Herein, a hollow porous photocatalytic aerogel sphere (calcium alginate/cellulose nanofibers (CA/CNF)) loaded BiOBr/TiC, combining a favourable mass transfer structure with effective catalytic centers was firstly presented. The floatability and hollow pore structure facilitated rapid O transfer via a triphase interface, thereby promoting the generation of ROS.

Robust interfaces in anodes play a crucial role in boosting sodium-ion battery (SIB) performance. However, the fragile interfaces constructed by a two-step synthesis or artificial stack are prone to be destroyed during the charging/discharging processes, which significantly reduces the lifetime of SIBs. Here, a facile construction strategy is developed to produce robust interfaces in hollow sphere-like CoSe/nitrogen-doped carbon (HS-CoSe/NC) using intrinsic Co, N, C in metal-organic framework as precursors, which enhance the electron/ion diffusion kinetics.
