Published: February 2009

An ethynylene diisophthalic acid linker molecule was synthesized and used to form a zinc carboxylate-based metal organic framework (MOF) with very large pores and unit cell volume resulting from the unusual combination of structurally different inorganic units forming the secondary building blocks (SBUs). The structure is the first zinc hydroxide carboxylate structure where the inorganic units do not form layers or ribbons but isolated islands. The structure forms true pores with a significantly narrowed pore entry similar to zeolites. The pores are, thus, not created simply by intersecting channels as in most other MOF structures. Although the pore shape is highly asymmetric the spherical free volume is with 10.8 A still large. The stability of the SBUs in respect to exchange and removal of coordinated solvent molecules is investigated.

Exploring the synergistic effect of NaOH/NaClO absorbent in a novel wet FGD scrubber to control SOx/NOx emissions.

International Joint Research Center For Green Energy and Chemical Industry, School of Chemical Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, 200237, People's Republic of China.

Escalating SOx and NOx emissions from industrial plants necessitates customized scrubbing solutions to improve removal efficiency and tackle cost limitations in existing wet FGD units. This work investigates the real-time intensified removal pathways via an innovative two-stage countercurrent spray tower configuration strategically integrating NaOH (M) and NaOH/NaClO (M/M) to remove SOx and NOx emissions simultaneously from the industrial stack through a comprehensive parametric study of absorbents concentration, reaction temperature, gas flow rate, liquid to gas ratio (F/F), and absorbent showering head. Flue gas stream comprising SO bearing 4500 ppm, SO bearing 300 ppm, 70 ppm NO, and 50 ppm NO brought into contact with two scrubbing solutions as M, and a complex absorbent of M/M at varying respective ratios.

Rationalization of the structural, electronic and photophysical properties of silver(I) halide -picolylamine hybrid coordination polymers.

Dalton Trans

January 2025

Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto per la Sintesi Organica e la Fotoreattività (CNR-ISOF), Via Piero Gobetti 101, 40129 Bologna, Italy.

Hybrid coordination polimers based on AgX (with X = Cl, Br) and 2-, 3-, 4-picolylamine ligands, obtained by means of solvent-free methods, show peculiar luminescence properties that are strongly influenced by their structural motif, which in turn is defined by the adopted isomer of the ligand. A comprehensive study, combining photophysical methods and DFT calculations, allowed to rationalize the emissive behaviour of such hybrid coordination polymers in relation to their crystal structures and electronic properties. By means of luminescence measurements at variable temperatures, the nature of the emissive excited states and their deactivation dynamics was interpreted, revealing XMLCT transitions in the [(AgX)(2-pica)] compounds, a TADF behaviour in the case of 3-pica derivatives, and a dual emission at room temperature for the [(AgX)(4-pica)] family.

Hoffmann Institute of Advanced Materials, Shenzhen Polytechnic University, 7098 Liuxian Blvd, Nanshan District, Shenzhen 518055, P. R. China.

Metal-organic frameworks have received extensive development in the past three decades, which are generally constructed via the reaction between inorganic building units and commercially available or presynthesized organic linkers. However, the presynthesis of organic linkers is usually time-consuming and unsustainable due to multiple-step separation and purification. Therefore, methodology development of a new strategy is fundamentally important for the construction and further exploration of the applications of MOFs.

Comparative Analysis of Protist Communities in Oilsands Tailings Using Amplicon Sequencing and Metagenomics.

Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, and Department of Biological Sciences, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The Canadian province of Alberta contains substantial oilsands reservoirs, consisting of bitumen, clay and sand. Extracting oil involves separating bitumen from inorganic particles using hot water and chemical diluents, resulting in liquid tailings waste with ecotoxicologically significant compounds. Ongoing efforts aim to reclaim tailings-affected areas, with protist colonisation serving as one assessment method of reclamation progress.

is a Gram-positive bacterium that is responsible for severe nosocomial infections. The rise of multidrug-resistant strains, which can pose significant health threats, prompts the development of new treatment interventions, and much attention has been directed at the development of prophylactic and therapeutic vaccination strategies. Capsular polysaccharides (CPs) are key protective elements of the cell wall and have been proposed as promising candidate antigens.
