Minimum twenty-year follow-up of fixed-vs mobile-bearing total knee arthroplasty: Double blinded randomized trial.

J Clin Orthop Trauma

January 2025

Loyola University Health System, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, 2160 South First Avenue, 60153, Maywood, IL, USA.

Introduction: Mobile-bearing (MB) inserts, designed to minimize aseptic loosening and to reduce contact stresses leading to polyethylene wear, are an alternative to fixed-bearing (FB) inserts. Most studies have shown no significant difference between MB and FB constructs, and there is limited long-term data comparing the two constructs [1,2,3,4]. The purpose of this study was to report the outcomes of a randomized controlled trial comparing MB versus FB inserts on patients with minimum 20-year follow-up.

Objectives: Septic arthritis after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a rare but potentially devastating complication. The imaging findings associated with such infections are not well-described or quantified. The purpose of this study was to describe and quantify the frequency of the characteristic MRI findings of infection following ACL reconstruction.

Unveiling the uncommon: hypoplasia of external iliac artery-a case report and literature review.

J Cardiothorac Surg

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, The Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, Hebei, 050000, P. R. China.

The absence or dysplasia of the iliac artery(IA) is an exceedingly rare condition, with limited cases documented in the literature. In this report, we present a case of hypoplasia of the right external iliac artery (EIA) in a 69-year-old male patient. The patient presented with right lower abdominal pain attributed to an aneurysm of the right internal iliac artery (IIA), yet notably, there was no evidence of lower limb ischemia at the time of consultation.

Background: The role of local infiltration anesthesia (LIA) in knee surgery is significant. LIA can be more potent than a nerve block, but without the downsides. A wide range of agents are used for LIA, including some off-label medications such as dexmedetomidine and ropivacaine.

Deep learning and genome-wide association meta-analyses of bone marrow adiposity in the UK Biobank.

Nat Commun

University/BHF Centre for Cardiovascular Science, University of Edinburgh, The Queen's Medical Research Institute, Edinburgh BioQuarter, 47 Little France Crescent, Edinburgh, UK.

Bone marrow adipose tissue is a distinct adipose subtype comprising more than 10% of fat mass in healthy humans. However, the functions and pathophysiological correlates of this tissue are unclear, and its genetic determinants remain unknown. Here, we use deep learning to measure bone marrow adiposity in the femoral head, total hip, femoral diaphysis, and spine from MRI scans of approximately 47,000 UK Biobank participants, including over 41,000 white and over 6300 non-white participants.
