A pentavalent uranyl complex supported by a bulky dianionic tetradentate (ONNO)-type salan ligand has been prepared by direct synthesis from the iodide precursor {[UO(2)Py(5)][KI(2)Py(2)]}(n), and displays high stability towards disproportionation and ligand dissociation but reactivity towards oxidizing substrates.

A recently synthesised novel macrocycle composed of four quinoline units called TEtraquinoline (TEQ) (, 2023, (4), 2609-2618) was reported to exhibit transition metal complexation ability. Meanwhile, there is a growing interest in different binding motifs for radioactive and toxic actinides. In this study, we modelled high-valent actinyl (AnO), An = U, Np, Pu; = 1, 2, 3 complexes of TEQ and studied their geometric and electronic properties using scalar relativistic density functional theory (SR-DFT).

Pentavalent uranium compounds are key components of uranium's redox chemistry and play important roles in environmental transport. Despite this, well-characterized U(V) compounds are scarce primarily because of their instability with respect to disproportionation to U(IV) and U(VI). In this work, we provide an alternate route to incorporation of U(V) into a crystalline lattice where different oxidation states of uranium can be stabilized through the incorporation of secondary cations with different sizes and charges.

The +5 state is an unusual oxidation state of uranium due to its instability in the aqueous phase. As a result, gaining information about its aqueous speciation is extremely difficult. The present work is an attempt in that direction and it provides insight into the existence of a new pentavalent species in the presence of hetero-bifunctional phosphonocarboxylate (PC) chelators, other than the carbonate ion, in the aqueous medium.

Spectator ions have known and emerging roles in aqueous metal-cation chemistry, respectively directing solubility, speciation, and reactivity. Here, we isolate and structurally characterize the last two metastable members of the alkali uranyl triperoxide series, the Rb and Cs salts (Cs-U and Rb-U). We document their rapid solution polymerization via small-angle X-ray scattering, which is compared to the more stable Li, Na and K analogues.

Owing to the prominent existence and unique chemistry of actinyls, their complexation with suitable ligands is of significant interest. The complexation of high-valent actinyl moieties (An = U, Np, Pu and Am) with the acyclic sal-porphyrin analogue called "pyrrophen" (L) and its dimethyl derivative (L) with four nitrogen and two oxygen donor atoms was studied using relativistic density functional theory. Based on the periodic trends, the [UO-L/L] complexes show shorter bond lengths and higher bond orders that increase across the series of pentavalent actinyl complexes mainly due to the localization of the 5f orbitals.
