Purpose: Biomechanic factors play a role in the pathogenesis of knee osteoarthritis. The aim of the study was to find out whether there is a relation between femoral, acetabular anteversions, anterior, posterior acetabular coverages and primary osteoarthritis of the knee.

Methods: Thirty patients with primary osteoarthritis of the knee and 29 control subjects were enrolled into the study. Femoral anteversion, acetabular anteversion, McKibbin's instability index, anterior acetabular sector and posterior acetabular sector angles were measured using tomographic scanograms.

Results: There was no difference between groups for each parameter (P > 0.05).

Conclusion: This study did not show any relationship between the axial plane changes in the hip joint and primary knee osteoarthritis.

Background: Evaluating the correlation between degenerative meniscus tears and medial meniscus extrusion is necessary to determine the appropriate treatment plan for early-stage knee osteoarthritis. This study evaluated the relationship between degenerative meniscal tears and medial meniscus extrusion in early-stage knee osteoarthritis by using ultrasonography.

Methods: A total of 132 knees from 123 patients with early-stage knee osteoarthritis were evaluated retrospectively.

Background: Previous clinical studies suggest that preserving the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is crucial for stable knee motion and long-term longevity of the reconstructed knee. The ACL damage or loss often occurs in advanced medial osteoarthritis (OA). This study aimed to investigate the correlation between ACL damage and varus deformity progression as a risk factor for ACL tears in knee OA.

Knee loading and joint pain during daily activities in people with knee osteoarthritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Clin Biomech (Bristol)

January 2025

Department for Health, University of Bath, Bath, UK; Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA), University of Bath, Bath, UK.

Background: Knee loading is associated with the severity and progression of knee osteoarthritis, while knee pain contributes to reduced functional ability and quality of life. In this systematic review, we quantified knee loading and knee pain during different daily activities in people with knee osteoarthritis and explored methodological reasons for differences between studies.

Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and manual searches were performed up to July 2024, to retrieve studies measuring knee loading and knee pain in walking, sit-to-stand and stair climbing of people with knee osteoarthritis.

Patellar dysplasia (PD) can cause patellar dislocation and subsequent osteoarthritis (OA) development. Herein, a novel ABCA6 mutation contributing to a four-generation family with familiar patellar dysplasia (FPD) is identified. In this study, whole exome sequencing (WES) and genetic linkage analysis across a four-generation lineage presenting with six cases of FPD are conducted.

Background: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) was introduced to provide surgeons with virtual preoperative planning and intraoperative information to achieve the desired surgical goals in an effort to improve patient outcomes. The purpose of this study was to compare clinical outcomes and patient-reported outcome measures following primary TKA using RA-TKA vs manual instrumentation.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort review study comparing 393 primary RA-TKAs vs 312 manual TKAs at a minimum 2-year follow-up.
