Phosphotungstic acid (H(3)PW(12)O(40)) was used as an efficient and recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of polysubstituted quinolines through the Friedländer condensation of 2-aminoarylketone with carbonyl compounds, which was achieved by conventional heating under solvent-free conditions.

Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) has been broadly applied in the fabrication of nano-patterned polymer films for cost-efficiency and high through-put; however, the intrinsic tradeoff between mechanical strength and residual stress of polymer films significantly limits the NIL resolution while the harsh processing conditions limit its versatile applications to different substrates. Herein, 1 nm metal oxide cluster, phosphotungstic acid (PTA), is used to complex with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for high-resolution NIL that can be operated at large-scale and mild conditions. The ultra-small size of PTA enables dense supramolecular interaction with PVA for the diminished crystallinity and accelerated chain dynamics that help relax the residual stress during film casting.

Background: Structural analysis of soft biological tissues is conventionally done with destructive 2D histology. 3D information can be accessed with non-invasive imaging methods, such as X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). While attenuation-based X-ray imaging alone does not provide reasonable contrast with soft-tissue samples, the combination with contrast-enhancing staining has proven effective.

Developing a mild and efficient pretreatment technique to fully utilize lignocellulosic biomass remains a challenge. In this work, a biphasic system with 2-phenoxyethanol (EPH) organic solvent and phosphotungstic acid (PTA) aqueous solution was employed to pretreat corn stover. The prominent synergistic effect between EPH and PTA was revealed to play a key role in the fractionation of corn stover.

To efficiently treat rhodamine B (RhB) and tetracycline (TC) in wastewater, MIL-101(Cr) was prepared by hydrothermal method and encapsulated with phosphotungstic acid (HPWO, abbreviated as PTA) to form an S-scheme heterojunction PTA@MIL-101(Cr)-x (P@M-x, x = 50, 100, 150, 200). This study focused on extracting holocellulose from Changbai larch waste, which is rich in hexose and beneficial for furan chemicals production. Various alkaline deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was applied in the extraction of holocellulose.
